Ever heard of reinstallation? It's a new feature. You're getting a new computer so it should probably support it.

I'll trade you my copy of AOE3 for your copy of Sid Mier's civil war.

Its not like I play my AOE3 anyway, partly because it sucks compared to AOK and RTW, and partly because my CD has been broken in half since an air conditioner fell on it.

So... fair trade, yes?

NOOOO...we won't have a person that SHOUTS anymore!!!!! We just have a lousy screamer!

I would seriously think you could have space, but I'm not the person to talk about games. >_> I mean, I'm ancient in taste. Long live isometric graphics!

Meh, I tried making this thread useful.

I personally think it's because they want to see their name up in lights, and to have people pay attention to them.

Wouldn't it be awesome if someone started a really dramatic "I'm leaving forever" post...and no-one replied?

The "I am leaving" threads had a lot of attention together with "The end of AoK" ones when Empire Earth and later Age of Mythology came out. The AoK community knows that they play the best RTS game of all time, and knows that many people leaving come back eventually.

You got a Dell? That's an upgrade? What did you have before?
The AoK community knows that they play the best RTS game of all time, and knows that many people leaving come back eventually.
Quoted for truth.

Any RTS that's released is compared to AoK and is deemed "better" in the first few months. Then all of the sudden they realize how damn boring it is and how the editor could never compare to AoK's, so they come back, or quit gaming all-together and become a monk to fill the void AoK left. (Wololo...)

Now to sum this up and put this bluntly, southern_html :

Nobody cares that you are leaving!

To be honest, no-one would care that I was leaving, but I don't think i'd make a good-bye thread considering I haven't released a single project from errors and lack of inspiration after a while.

Nobody cares that you are leaving!
No need to be rude.
No seriously, why?
Let's see... from my experience with my sister's desktop:

1. Customer support is absolutely *awful*. You might think Microsoft is awful, but Dell is far, far worse. All four times I called Dell customer support, I ended up waiting over 3 hours (one day up to five hours, at which point I hung up) to get somebody who could help me. This isn't unique either; Dell does this all of the freaking time!

2. They make sure you only use Dell; replacement parts are all overpriced, since Dell uses non-standard parts, meaning any replacement *has to be Dell*. While you would think you're saving money by buying a cheap PC, you're paying far more to get the damn thing repaired. It isn't limited to just computer parts either; my sister's "free printer" could only use overpriced Dell ink.

3. The Dell casing is very tight and crowded, making replacements or modifications difficult.

4. The quality of the parts are awful. We've had to send her hard drive back four different times, each time with Dell sending a new one; finally we saved time (time is money and she needs her computer for work) by having a local computer techy help us out and placing in an order for us. The motherboard also burnt out a month after my sister bought the computer, and the power supply is *terrible*.

They're just all kinds of absolutely terrible. If you're a power user, or at least plan on upgrading your computer one day, buying a Dell is screwing yourself over in the long-term. If you just need a computer, a Dell is fine. Just don't expect it to be something that will last. You'd be fooling yourself if you think my problems are isolated incidents too -- this is the Dell norm.

I can safely say that here, the company who imports Dell laptops, has great customer service, not to mention excellent guarantee service. If they say they're gonna do something, they will. Maybe it's just the US.

Customer support is almost always useless. ISPs, computer manufacturers, whatever, it's all the same. Those who answer the phones can hardly speak English and don't understand you. And they know about as much as the average user. They simply take out a manual themselves and tell you to make sure all the lights are working on the router . Dell aren't unique in that respect.
2. They make sure you only use Dell; replacement parts are all overpriced, since Dell uses non-standard parts, meaning any replacement *has to be Dell*. It isn't limited to just computer parts either; my sister's "free printer" could only use overpriced Dell ink.
If that's true, it doesn't apply to hard drivers, graphics cards or RAM, since I've been able to replace those on my Dell PC. Ink is always expensive. The cheaper the printer, the more expensive the ink - it's like a rule of thumb. It sucks...
3. The Dell casing is very tight and crowded, making replacements or modifications difficult.
That one I agree with.
4. The quality of the parts are awful. We've had to send her hard drive back four different times, each time with Dell sending a new one; finally we saved time (time is money and she needs her computer for work) by having a local computer techy help us out and placing in an order for us. I've experienced just the opposite... My Dell hard drive works better than the other one I added in (Maxtor). Although the RAM somehow went from 512mb to 502mb, and I've no idea why. I never had any problems with the CD drive until I lost the jumper . I've also never experienced any problems with the motherboard or power supply.

I bought a low-end Dell computer - the Dimension 3000. I've never had enough money to buy a good PC, so I just spend 530 on this one. I kinda shot myself in the foot since the 3000 only supports PCI graphics - no PCI-E or AGP. Still, I bought a GeForce FX5200 256mb (old I know, but it runs most of what I play). New hard drivers aren't a problem, and neither is RAM, since the website I use (Komplett.ie) has a feature where you tell it your computer and it finds compatible RAM.

Sorry, but I'm still gonna buy a Dell as my next computer .

No need to be rude? I think that going off-topic is rude. Someone says that they are leaving and now it's just a thread to talk about computers and how inefficient Dell customer service is. I was being more blunt than rude.

Immortal words. I just played my first multiplayer in months. I'm never going to play another of those RoN, AoM, empire at war, warcraft and the like. They all get boring pretty quick.
