Hey guys,

For two days now, whenever I boot the computer and go to play some good ol' AOK, I find that the entire "Age of Empires II" folder is empty. There are only 9 files left in the file, giving the appearance that the game has been uninstalled.

This would appear to be the case, or someone may have deleted it, only it's happened twice and for two days in a row. I'm yet to reinstall the game (and frankly I can't be bothered doing it all over again and every single day), but I was wondering what people had to say about it. I've never come across anything like this before.

The 9 files left in the folder include:

AVI
BACKUP DATA
DATA
SOUND
*Age2_x1
*language_x1_p1.dll
*player.nfp
*ReadmeX_a
*UNWISE

This means, of course, that whatver work I may have done on my scenarios are all but lost. Good thing I am fussy, and backed up all my major scenarios only a few hours before last playing the game - so trigger losses, hopefully, won't be too severe.

Any comments are most welcome!

I regret to inform you that your computer most likely suffers from meningitis.

Either a virus, or an older relative who likes to meddle with settings and has unwittingly created all sorts of cataclysmic computer problems.

This has happened to me before, game folders disappearing but it was my fault. Left my computer on while my cousins were over and for some reason they deleted random folders. did you check your recycle bin?

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

I don't believe it was a younger family member or something because the game folder is hard to find, and everyone but the older few are pretty computer illiterate.

I figured it must have been a virus, a weird one. I uninstalled, deleted all to do with AOK in C Drive and installed the game in E drive. It's been there for some days now and nothing wrong has happened to it.

...a cricket bat in my case.

Let's ask Cyrus...he's a virus.
the good kind of virus, the kind that takes out peaceful villages, not chaotic hard drives

Now, guys, don't pay out the despicable virus. His very existence may be a burden on mankind, but he's our burden on mankind.

Hmm.. not sure if this is the case, but, I have noticed that sometimes some of my files will become... hidden.

In Explorer go to Tools and then File Option... and click the View tab. You'll see some settings under there for Show hidden files and Folders.

Hope it somehow is the problem and this fixes it
