i'd say it's case by case. nukes are a deterrent through MAD, meaning the big powers of the world can't attack eachother. at the same time if somebody gets a nuke who's not affected by MAD, they're extremely dangerous, like unlocalized terrorists or rouge states. I'm sure Kim Jong Ill wouldn't consider the destruction of North Korea a concern as long as he lived through it.

They create a prisoner's dilemna where if your enemy has nukes, you have to get nukes too.

I'd rather see a world without nukes at all, because, while the stalemate created when both sides have nukes may ensure that they're not used, there is still the risk of some nutter getting his hands on them and actually using them. For a first step, with Iran very keen on erasing Israel off the map, and the risk of them secretly creating nuclear warheads, things would've been better if nukes hadn't been there in the first place.

I don't think iranians are so stupid to put the USA in condition to nuke them. They just want to show that they're uber 1337 and got the noobbomb like the other big boyz.

Meh, if it wasn't nukes it would have been something else.
It's always a race to see who can get the better whatver.
Pointest rock, biggest trebuchet, longest range cannon, whatever.
This time it just so happens to be the biggest explosion.

Only thing is that the canon with the longest range doesn't have an aftereffect. (Unless you load it with radio-active ammunition..) The big problem is that while states like the USA, Russia, Iran and many others have some kind of sense, extremists have not. This makes it quite possible to get a "if I die, I'll take you all with me!"-kind of scenario.
(Like a big suicide attack.)

yeah but extremists have to get their hands on a nuke and a big airplane first, and not be just boomed when flying over the ocean, which would destroy the schrimp- and fish- dependant nations, but not the humanity.

Not exactly, from what TV has told me about the security of Military bases in The Netherlands, it's quite easy to get in. What if an extremist gets his hands on some nuclear waste or even worse? He wouldn't need to pass any borders and would be able to make a 'dirty' bomb and detonate it in the urban areas...

from what TV has told me
And that derails your argument completely. However, it could have been worse, you could have said "from what wikipedia has told me".

:P

Yeah I know TV often isn't a good source of information, however the show I watched was an undercover operation. A guy actually made it into the base and was even able to check the F16-fighterjets from close range. In the end he even managed to get away in an armytruck without raising suspicion!

Who knows what could have happened when he was actually a terrorist and blew up stuff there...

Dirty bomb is good idea, but it won't destroy the world. It's a normal bomb with radioactive things, and doesn't cause any "if you hit me I hit you and we all suicide" reaction.
We speak about nuclear bombs, and they're not so easy to get.

I believe that the nukes will be guarded, and probably require dozens of codes and authorization from somewhere. It will be hard for the Terrorists to get hold of All of these things.

And Handling a nuke is an complicated process, Something I dont think most of the Extremist Organizations can understand as of yet.

Thats just an Opinion

they are uber h4xx0r, they can learn how to handle them imho, but they can't get them and wouldn't have any chance to bring it over the usa.
