Does anyone know if he's for real dead? I've heard everything from in the hospital from heat stroke to heart attack to he's a zombie.
Anyway, you may not like him, but I thought his music was pretty cool when I was growing up, and I just want to anonymously send out my respects to him over teh interwebz because that's how I get my jollies.

He has "died" like he lived - with unsubstantiated claims which we all believe anyway.
Is he dead for real this time? Or is a setup for another cheesy zombie game?

Know that he'd get my condolences anyway whether he's dead or alive.

I remember the Jackson Five. Not saying I was a fan, just that I can remember that far back.

Hmmm I won't miss him.. except for his funny clips, I dont really care about him.
I loved his music; he was a big James Brown fan, and you can tell by his singing style. It's too bad; he hasn't made great music since Bad, but he leaves behind that legacy of work (and The Beatles copyrights).
That said, in regards to his alleged touching of kids, it could be true, it could be fake... either way, if you sleep in the same bed as strange children, you can't expect to walk away without a *few* people pressing charges. Ornlu knows this especially.

Michael Jackson is a musician who hasn't managed to get through to me entirely. I enjoy a lot of his songs, kinda, but he hasn't... impressed me as such, emotionally that is. I pity the foo' who fails to recognise his contribution to modern music. But... I don't know. Maybe it's that I'm so young (then why do I like and get inspired by Black Sabbath & Neil Young -- no one knows) or maybe I just haven't concentrated enough on it. Either way, his best days were already long behind and he has seemed not just a bit fragile for the last 10 or so years. Doesn't mean it's not sad he died, just that we can't pull out the Randy Rhoads/Jimi Hendrix/Aaliyah card and claim he would've gone on to something even more spectacular hadn't he died. Poor dude had debts like hell and he hadn't contributed to music in years. Ultimately his story is a sad one.

He was a pop singer, through and through. He didn't have emotional vocals at all. He didn't even have much of a range. But it sounded great and he had catchy music/lyrics.

Every rock musician I know, young and old, claim they were inspired IN SOME WAY by Black Sabbath. Liking old music despite being young doesn't mean you're defying the norm -- it means you have parents.

I wasn't implying defying the norm, just my wondering why I like one influential dude and not another.

Different genres, man. Synth-heavy dance pop nearly isn't as inspiring to rockers as droney blues rock. To keyboardists or singers, however....

I AGREE 100%. Nobody *proved* Michael did anything, and to deem him as nothing more than a pedophile who's worth no more than his label is doing him a HUGE injustice.

Gah. Sidetracked by Michael Jackson related wiki material. Sorry to see the guy go. Not a huge fan of his music, but it's fun to listen to sometimes. Like Thriller.

I only base that statement on what he personally admitted to doing. There's a scary trend in society to apologize for the actions of musicians and athletes. If a middle aged man slept with my little sister, I wouldn't need to know what exactly happened. He admitted to sleeping with kids in a room that had an alarm system to detect when people got near. People have been found guilty of pedophilia for far less. When you're big and rich enough, the rules change.

...okay sure. And OJ is an aquitted murderer. And Al Capone's only crime was income tax evasion.
EDIT: Just because someone died doesn't mean that my opinion of them should change. I don't care what music contributions he made, it's irrelevant. If I had posted a Michael Jackson thread 3 days ago, every post would have been a joke about his face or his sexual preferences. Now he's dead, and all of a sudden he's this great artist whose reputation was ruined by the big, bad media.
