My dad was an alcoholist for 30 years and a smoker for 20. Even for heavy drinkers like him, physical withdrawal symptoms disappear after a week. Beyond that, all that remains is the little red devil in your head whispering sweet words of intoxication, and if you're a long-time addict, it will likely remain there for the rest of your life.
I smoked when I was younger, but gave it up about a year ago. I started smoking, like General_Zavier, because I was curious and liked the smell and taste of it. Maybe it's a childhood thing. I gave it up because it cost me too much money. Simple as that. For other people, it's not quite as simple, because, hey, people are different. Putting all eggs in one basket is just stupid.

I think smoking is useless and dangerous, and is a waste of money too. Only the state earns money from tobacco taxes, but the costs of health care are very big too.
Here it's banned in all public buildings, offices, hotels, bars, restaurants etc. (they can have a 100% separated place for smoker if they want)
Imho the ban should be extended to parks, squares and similar public places that get crowded.

Ladies and gents....get ready for something controversial. to many post to read so here's my take.
Why do we do it? Because we like the feeling of smoke. It's stupid though. Would I force someone to stop? no. Would I ask them to stop? Yes.
Think about it? Inhaling smoke? what?
