I edit BMP in GIMP and it opened fine. How do I edit the thing? If I zoom in too far it is a pixelate mess. If I zoom out too far I can't get the details.
I was just curious how you actually edited the BMPs. Just interested in other's experiences on this. Thanks.

that incredibly powerful and complex program know as Windows Paint seems to work fine for basic BMP editing. if you want something more advanced, try to find PaintShop Pro from jasc.com. they offer a free trial run of their software.
What I mean is do you just edit a pixel at a time or mass editing? How do you edit it? I have done basic isometric pixel art and am not sure how other modify here.

pixel by pixel i'm afraid. there are no magic buttons that change entire sections in any major way, save for changing the color. fool around in your graphics editor and see what you can do.
