Hi! I used to mod AOE-II HD edition a few years before, and have recently purchased the Definitive Edition 3 months ago.

I am using the Advance Genie Editor that came with AOE2-DE to modify Unit Attributes in Empires2_x1_p1.dat. I did some trials and modified the Attack and Reload Time Attributes of 3 or 4 Units, then Saved the file. (I created a backup before editing)

However, when starting a game, Standard or Campaign, an error is displayed saying something like "world/map cannot be created". Replaced the backup file, then everything works fine again.

I also tried modifying the Empires2_x1_p1.dat file of the Mods I downloaded, and starting a game with the edited Mods won't also work.

Am I doing something wrong? I am simply modifying stats in Empires2_x1_p1.dat, no other intermediate stuff.

Last time I remember, the process is just as simple in HD edition.

Would appreciate all sorts of help and comments. Thank you!

You need to create a local mod for any changes to DE. You can't alter the original .dat file anymore.

Hi Sebastien, thanks for the information. Is this because of a recent update? I was browsing the forums for DE Modding Basics but did not see this.

Also, I tried editing the Empires2_x1_p1.dat of some of the Mods i have downloaded, and they wont work as well after saving the changes.

Does this mean I need to create an entire Mod Pack from scratch?

Thank you!
