Shouldn't sliver and iron be added onto the list of wood, gold, stone, and food? Or at least replace stone with iron.

And it would be cool if you can actually see your villie going down in a iron mine and pushing the iron out in carts. Instead of building mining camps, you would build a iron mine next to the iron and the villie would slowly erode away the iron into your stockpile

Any1 else have some ideas for new resources?

Cmon ppl
if you add too much detail into the game, it gets too hard for gamers
the time for cutting wood should be the same for any tree
and there should be more than 4 resources

Depends on:
  • HOW you include the detail into the game
  • if you have an extensive tutorial shipped with the game, which will explain EVERYTHING (unlike AoM's)
  • the logic behind the detail. Look at CotN: the game 'rules' (how people interact with one another) are quite complex and extensive, but they are LOGICAL!

    and there should be more than 4 resources

    Depends:
  • 8-10 resources --> RoN
  • >20 resources --> Settlers series, Anno 1602 and Anno 1503, Knights and Merchants
  • 1 resource --> C&C
  • 2 resources -->Warcraft
  • 4 resources --> ES
    See? Significant other number of resources, and you have an other game. 3 resources are too less imo, so they should have 4 or 5 in AoD, preferably 5 (but not more!): money, food, wood, stone, metal.

    Well, it can be 4 resources;
    Food
    Wood
    Money(gold, silver, stuff )
    Mining( iron, steel, lead)

    I wouldn't like to see water there...

    I played some Rise of Nations, whihc goes from the stone age to the present day.
    res:
    food
    wood
    knowlegde
    money
    mining
    oil(later in the game)

    but then resources are neverending, if you mine from a mountain then that will never go empty, or a farm, or fishing, and knowlegde is gathered by scholars from a university.. But ao game style is much better.. keep only four resources.. I would suggest the ones above in my post :P

    It can be confirmed that 3 and only 3 resources are to be used. Most likely gold, food, wood.

    why? how? by who?
    Why should they go down to 3 resources now? They allways had 4, there was 4 in aoe right?..hmm. though AoM's resource "favor" isn't like the rest of the resorces..You don't need that one as much as the others,, though you do need it ..

    Food
    Wood
    Stone
    Metal
    Knowledge/Wisdom(/Wealth)

    are the resources I'd choose. They a actually real and much used resources, contrairy to gold/silver/stuff like that.

    - Water (a touch of realism )
    - Food (to make units )
    - Stone (to make towers, walls, etc. )
    - Gold (to create soldiers, market activities, etc.)
    - Wood (to create buildings, ships, etc. )
    - Iron (to make steel weapons, bullets, armor, etc.)
    I doubt they'll use water, but it would be cool to have wells and that stuff...

    AJAX, i have nothing against water as a recource, but could u explain how u'd like to use it. Because i think that would be a to complicated and need mouch micro. Could u explain????????

    Water would be used for creating farms, people, and a little for buildings. You would build wells, and villagers would pull water up with a suspended bucket. If you build one near a river or other water source, villagers haul water back to it. It would either need to be automatically depleted from your stockpile, or a lot would need to be used. This is because it is inexhaustible and easy to gain.

    Water is essential to population. I would have it in a inverse relationship....especially in desert maps.

    Actually ajax, i had also an idea of my own, but i'd like to hear your idea first. I dont like water to be like the other recources but more like houses that influences your popcap. There would be watersprings all around on the map. U could build wells on it and each well provides water for say building 20 men and also for 4-5 farms. So this would influence your popcap and your foodproduction. This way there wouldnt be much micro to do and u add a bit more strategy in the game. But this idea would work only with plain land maps with no water (lakes and rivers) on it.

    What about the enemy dropping poison in the river after that? All the units get their HP lowed by 1 HP maybe per second, until you heal them with a doctor?

    about the weather... good idea, but the normal rate of the AOE games goes at a good 2-5 years a second (think of the wonder countdowns)... if there were to be weather changes it would be flashing day and night, foggy, couldy, sunny, snow, autumn, 365 times a second. They might have to change something around to fit that in

    I dont think that would really matter! It doesnt have to be so down to real time as that. I think it would be good if there was weather and maybe that could affect you. Like, you could say if it was raining then farms would produce slower or if it was windy units would move slower etc.
    I think maybe one or two resources would be ok, too many resouces get annoying and confusing.

    the real problem with weather would be winter when they had to basically hole up for 3 months and stop doing work. Imagine only being able to collect resources for 3/4 of the time... that would either be brilliant or pure stupidity, and theres more of a chance of it turning out pure stupidity.

    I don't think seasons/weather are a good idea. It slows the game down to a noticable time incremation. It would make the game too repetative, and would be annoying.

    a little tip to the "only 3 resources" thing- theres 9 months for the game to come out yet and that could just mean that they only have 3 resources accounted for, they may just have the essentials of wood gold and food down and are working to see wat should stay and what should go. plenty of time to change it, and that they will if they see how many people are unsatisfied.
