...or On the Effect of Modern Popular Music. Sorry to all the dudes I misled to thinking this was going to be my suicide note, I guess I shouldn't have induced false hopes. Next time it might be for real, don't lose hope!
I was listening to Judas Priest's album 'Stained Class', namely to the song Better By You, Better Than Me. And you know what I was not thinking while listening to it? Committing a suicide. So I wondered, 'Maybe there's something wrong with me' and I listened to Ozzy Osbourne's Suicide Solution, still without so much as wanting to pinch my ear for my own harm. What I did feel like was having some wine.
I decided to expand my research and listened to Mercyful Fate's Into The Coven, but guess what? I didn't feel like participating in any Satanic get-together. (Or maybe just a little, but that might be because my back hurts and I think I could use a little pact.)
I even listened to Twisted Sister's Under The Blade and I hardly felt like sadomasochistic activities.
So what do you think? Could a song where some scouse weirdo chants 'Suicide' really make someone commit a suicide? Could a London-based rock band's cover song really reduce someone to taking their own life? Would they have committed suicide regardless of what music they were listening to? How much do you think music can really affect people, and do you feel music has strongly affected you?
This subject might be a bit old hat but I'm interested in hearing your opinions on matters such as these.
