Rap is ridiculous. Look I can do it too:

Gwame, that's a country not a name,
So why you pretending you got a game,
You talk all about researching feudal,
How'd you learn that by searchin' google?
Only thing you can flush is the toilet,
I'll cut you head off, and then I'll boil it.

Seriously, that took me about 5 minutes. And it is all feminine rhymes.

Wow, you made six lines, each ending in a feminine rhyme, but that doesn't necessarily make it a prime example of skillfully written rap . And five minutes? A simple little verse like that could be freestyled in 15 seconds.

Ok so maybe it took me 4-5 minutes (while working I may add :P) and it would take a rapper 15 seconds to top that, but the point is I can't just sit down and type up lyrics to real music that would be even decent. That is the thing rap is like checkers, music is chess. Checkers is fun (I guess?) but one can become respectable at it in a day, chess takes a natural talent + training.

That is why rap isn't real music IMO.

EDIT: before you guys kill me I know there is a lot of talent behind rap, and I know it takes training and practice, but relative to real music I think it is comparitively cheap. You don't need a fantastic voice, etc.

The thing is, singers are born with a natural ability, it can't be learned. Most music focuses on singing, but rap doesn't. So rappers work a lot more on lyrics. Yeah you can just sit down and type that up, but rapping has a skill to it as well. It's not as simple as just speaking the words. First of all you need a decent voice, good voice protection, good breath control, etc.
That is the thing rap is like checkers, music is chess
Depends how you look at it. Rap involves more lyricism that any other music, yet you're comparing it to the simpler game. You seem to think rap is as simple as rhyming words to make a verse. Rap is a more intelligent music. OK I'll admit newer rappers like Soulja Boy, Mims, etc - they are terrible lyricists, but that's not really what I'm talking about. The point is, you don't know how difficult it all is until you've tried.

You're bad at defending it though, Gwamey my wame wom. Allow me:

Rap is music too, beat oriented music; the production is often heavily electronic, but that's electronica's influence on rap. Simply put, if you don't think rap music is music, then you have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Honestly; if you deny it's music, you have some skewed, "dream reality" where only the music you love counts. And that's stupid; you shouldn't be debating music online, you should be wondering why the hell you're so proud to admit that you debate, even while knowing that your opinion's skewed and biased.

Your vocalists are doing the same thing as a rapper; using their voices as instruments, one using melody dominantly and the other using rhythm. With rap, it's certainly more lyrical, but it doesn't rely entirely on the meaning of the lyrics, it relies on the delivery and the flow. Lyrics could mean absolutely nothing at all and still sound good when presented. Now, Matt, I'd love to see you try to deliver the rhyme in a way that didn't sound like absolute crap. It takes skill and practice to work on flow and rhythm, just like it takes skill to use your voice melodically; any moron can write a couple of lines about beating the crap out of Gwame, and many have gotten rich from it ("Fadawah Whraps 'Bizzout Gwame", "Arolennium 2008: Screw Gwame", "My Fist, Your Face: The Turty Hits (Gwame)"), but it takes skill to actually be talented. Plus, rapped vocals are a technique, and can be used seperate from your normal hip-hop background; look at Aerosmith's Walk This Way (original version) and try to tell me that doesn't sound like "rapped" vocals. Listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More. Lots of rapped vocals with a rock background, and they're all considered predominantly rock.

Now, no more debating on whether rap's music. If you wanna take me on, make a new thread; this thread has a topic, and that means people should be rhyming! I DESTROY U GOOD NOW, AND ARE U YET DON'T KNOW HOW!
