Hey guys,

Music really sucks these days.

I mean, seriously.

I don't what's wrong with the music industry, but it seems to me they are just getting crappier.

I can't stand those stupid singles they play on the radios anymore.

So, I was wondering if anyone knew of any band that sings and sounds like Muse's hit songs, like "Hysteria", "Time is running out", and "Plug in Baby". And by that I don't mean songs within their new album featuring "Knights of Cydonia"....

...which means that I would be delighted if you were to recommend rock songs, especially those that share the "Muse" traits: rebellious, energetic, and not trashy(like those "I love satan" rock or "I want to die" variety). I am amused by Steelheart, and will even accept songs similar to "Painkiller" by Judas Priest.

But I am not into songs like "Paranoid Android"(too dreamy), AC/DC (don't like vocal), Sum41 and their high-school-band-like-variety-that-always-sings-about-immatu re-stuff. Pop would be fine, but the thing is, I abhor idiotic repetitive songs like hey-ya and gimme gimme. Jazz is okay. Hip Hop- let's not get into that.

By the way, I do have albums from extremely famous rock bands as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Iron Maiden, etc and so it would help me a lot if you would refrain giving out those "legendary" songs, because I most likely have them. But I you would like to direct attention to some underrated songs by these legends, feel free.

Oh, last but not least, I really, really appologize if you were offended by anything that I've said above. I never mean to piss anyone off. It's just that I do get pretty emotional when it comes to judging music because I am very interested in the topic.

Thanks.

how difficult it is to express moods with an instrument
Definetly one , but not the only thing I search for. Skill plays a great role for me too. For mood I choose music such as Burzum. For technical skill, well, you all know what fanboy I am.

regardless of genre; Green Day's "Longview" is just as much art as Michael Hedge's "Aerial Boundaries"
Isn't Longview about masturbation?

Green Day pre-American Idiot were brilliant. Almost every song on International Superhits! was enjoyable.

Boredom. And of course, masturbation is one of the many results of boredom.

Dookie and Warning were great. American Idiot was OK, had some hits and misses. Considering it was their first concept album, I think it was a good effort.

I've honestly never cared for Billie's voice because it can be mono-toney sometimes, but it's definitely tolerable.

Skill and mood go hand-in-hand. Almost every song out there expresses some sort of mood, evokes some sort of atmosphere. Technical skills without the expression would be what separates a good solo from a guitarist double-tapping a scale over and over again.

I'm all for this. You can have all the technical skills in the world but still play boring music, whereas with a lot of feeling, you can give great vibes to dudes and ladies even if you're not that great technically. Ofcourse, you can have all the feeling in the world and still play boring music if you can't express it right (i.e. if you don't understand music at all, in which case THERE ARE OTHER ART FORMS TOO, PEOPLE)

Ah, the old Dream Theater versus Pink Floyd argument. Every music forum I go to has a thread about this.

What is the argument? I've never listened to Dream Theater before.

Dream Theater is unbelievably progressive, Pink Floyd is unbelieveably... how to put this... Mary Jane likes it.

It's not really an argument, per se, but rather a question of whether Dream Theater's pure technical skill can rival the soul and passion of Pink Floyd's music. Dream Theater are a bag of cliches lyrically and thematically and Pink Floyd are innovative and dynamic in that aspect. However Dream Theater's members are all incredibly skilled in their instrument of choice while Pink Floyd, while they do have David Gilmour, do not match up in terms of sheer proficiency. I've never really had to think much to say that I'd prefer Pink Floyd anyday.

Oh, I didn't know that. I was kind of comparing me to the other guitar player in my band.

I know what you mean. GO THE NIGHTNECROMANCERZZZZ.

If I perform, nobody will hear me. If I try to hear myself, nobody will perform. If I try to have music videos, nobody will direct me. If I try to sign my autograph, nobody will take it, and a band accepting their own autograph is bad business. If I try to record and master a CD, nobody will do editing. Hey you shut up, no you shut up! How about everybody shut up! *re-enacts one horse scene of Family Guy*

Just noticed that. Uber song.

Anyway, I recently found myself addicted to Red Alert soundtrack by Frank Klepacki. Not only because of the massiv feeling of nostalgia I get while listening to Hell March (wickedest guitar riff on a game) and pretending to own a mammoth tank while squashing Allied infantry under my tank tracks, it's also just so damn good musically.
