I watched the movie "300" today, and man, what a mess.

Completely inaccurate.

Overused Computer Grafics.

Riduculous sex scenes.

Multiple nudity scenes.

A DINOSAUR! Give me a break!

The computer grafics alone stunned me. Idiotic looking portable thrones. Greeks instead of having Armour had six pack abs which made Arnold Schwarzenegger look like a weakling, and wearing nothing but underwear and then a beautiful crimson cape. A Persian who can take a sword through the eye, and live. And then the guy who gives away the hidden pass. They couldn't make him look more non-human even if they tried. He's 9/10s animal, and 1/10s part human.

Only one good part to the movie was when Leonidas said, "Spartans, What is your profession?"
"AHO AHO AHO AHO" That was great!

But how can people say this is such a great movie when it stinks? I wasted two and a half hours of my life watching pure stupidity, and moronicness.

Any personal thoughts on the movie you'd like to share.?

You (Dantares) also made a good impression with your campaigns. So many hours, wrestling with idea's. Playtested tons and tons of other work of other people.

Also, that movie wasn't intended to be a historical document, but I think that has been addressed here like a thousand times. _

300 is based on a popular comic, and it was adapted quite well. So yes, 300 is accurate to the source, which is not intended to be historical in case you still haven't figured that out.

Stop slating the movie for that. It's for entertainment, not historical education. 95% of this forum will think you're an idiot for posting this.

I didn't like the movie. The whole "WE'RE SO MANLY!" angle annoyed me. And while I won't say that the movie's themes offended me, they did creep me out a little.

300 isn't a parody or a joke movie. The director genuinely wants us to respect and admire the Spartans even though they throw babies off cliffs.

Completely inaccurate.
Inaccurate according to...? I understand the whole thing isn't meant to depict the battle of Thermopylai as an historical event but rather it was used as a setup for a RATHER fictious piece of entertainment. I mean, all that leaping to behead Xerxes? What the hell?! I agree with you, though, if you meant to say that they should've rather depicted it historically accurately, but then again I like documentaries more than fictious movies. EDIT: Oh just now I noticed Gwame's reply. But let me assure you Danty, I'm not in the 95% who think you're stupid! UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE, I don't blame others for being stupid just because they don't know something!
Riduculous sex scenes.

Multiple nudity scenes.
Come on, ridiculous sex is sometimes fun and nudity is almost always really all right. I'm nude right now!
A DINOSAUR!
Okay, I must've fallen asleep because I don't remember this, someone please clarify?
Greeks instead of having Armour had six pack abs -- wearing nothing but underwear and then a beautiful crimson cape
In fact, if you mind about respecting Greek art that one's a pretty good thing; not only does it provide the movie with something for the ladies to enjoy, it also depicts the Greek as in so many pots and plates from 400-250 B.C., although no, they never painted a six pack on Odysseus. In fact I'm pretty sure I saw Odysseus NAKED on a vase.
And then the guy who gives away the hidden pass.
To be quite frank I wasn't too fond of the slightly racist message here. Leonidas was all so GRACEOUS and TOLERATING but REALISTIC and WISE, whereas the mutant dude was a real arsehole. Maybe I see generalisations where there aren't any, but this seemed, although maybe unintentionally, somewhat racist. (On racist scale 1-10 that was about 7.8)

That is realistic, though. You've never met a Persian, have you?

There is a 1960's version that is (somewhat)accurate to the historical account.

300 sucks. It gives us grand pop culture references (this is sparta, kicking people into the pit of death, etc) but it is not that good IMO.

But this same topic is brought up all the time in just about every forum, movie website, chatroom, etc. Most people take it for granted by now that it is common knowledge that the historical inaccuracies are intended. This isn't a documentary.

I liked how that was spoofed in Meet the Spartans . "Come, let's talk by the giant pit of death!".... "Ok ".

The actual battle had 5000 Spartans, Leonidas and his entourage of 300 only remained on the last day to give the est of Greece more time. I have a book about battles that shaped history.

I hate this movie because it gives people who dont no anything about history the right to prance around saying "The Spartans ruled the Persians! They killed 1 million!"

It's obvious you don't know much about history, either. Persians are Aryans, Spartans never were.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, its reference to the Waffen-SS
and how they were specially chosen "Aryan" men and their officers believed that their units were "Super" fighting forces.

Such as how every dam Spartan Man (Not the Old Men) were buff, six pack, punch-through-stone, fighters who totally owned the Persians. The movie is sick, it makes history look one sided.

For all who haven't seen 300, you can watch the 5 second version.

I tried watching it once a year ago (my friend had a pirated copy ), but I could only watch 10 minutes into the movie.

Yeah, and the "3 million Persians" figure or whatever it was is shit. There was no way you could have an army that big in the ancient world.

But it works well for propaganda: "Surrender or be crushed under our one-million strong army".

Modern estimates give it like 180,000 soldiers, still a massive amount for ancient times.

The movie 300
... is way too violent for someone of your age to be watching. Little Dantares, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Also? You're a bit late jumping on the Trash 300 Because It Was Inaccurate bandwagon. :3

And I forgot to mention that you really shouldn't try to tell us the sex scenes are ridiculous, because it's painfully obvious you spent hours masturbating furiously to that oracle chick's f*cked up dance routine. Or maybe not, because you *do* seem like the kind of religious idiot whose parents ducttaped your equipment together so you wouldn't be tempted to whack it every so often.

300 was inaccurate, but it was not meant to be an accurate portrayal. Rather, it was an adaptation of Frank Miller's highly stylized account of the battle in his graphic novel of the same name.

Anyway it's one of those movies one watches purely for entertainment. It's two-and-a-half hours of chiselled men killing things in really stylish ways. If you are looking for anything deeper, 300 does not have it.

There is absolutely no point in replying to this topic because all the answers and retorts and confused replies have been said.

With that being said, I have decided that I will not reply... purely on principle.

I don't understand how people can entirely miss the point of the movie. It's all a story that's being narrated by a general to his army to boost confidence before a battle. Think. If you were a general doing just this would you be emphasizing on historical accuracy or how damn manly the 300 men were and how scary the Persians' armies are?

Well, one could take offense at how a deformed army of subhuman beasts is described as "Asian".
