My laptop freezes at random points during a song or video; (Whether it be itunes, media player, youtube etc.) and has to be turned off and on again, any ideas why?
Doesn't do it ALL the time or every time, like I could get half way through an entire playlist then randomly it'll freeze during a song, or, it could freeze 15 seconds into the first song or video.
I have no idea what any of this means (Or if it's relevant) but here's the system information -
Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3 Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz 2.39GHz, 224 MB of RAM
It could be a problem with your video/audio codecs, although that may not explain the YouTube problem. Nevertheless, it's worth a try. Google the K-Lite Codec Pack. It contains pretty much everything you need to play... anything.
extreme solution: format, install the drivrs, and then try to play a very long quicklist to see if it blocks (without any codecs, just download flash when it asks for it). If it happens it may be an hardware problem.

Quoted from Gwame:

Additional notes: If the pack couldn't play it, leave it. Malwares give videos that require certain codec, but if downloads the codec, your laptop won't work like before. I got this from a computer magazine that I bought last April.

True, and to clarify: If the video automatically directs you to a website to download the supposed "codec", just leave it; it's probably spyware.
The same crap happens to me all the time too with winamp etc, and I'm forced to restart the computer. Although it doesn't occur to the level of degree which your computer does.
No, because you should be able to run a virus scan, disk defrag, 1000 instances of Internet Explorer, every Microsoft Office program, and one of those screen savers that does super complex calculations for cancer research along with those programs you listed before you should even see a slight performance hit.
Dark_Reign, I assume you tried the usual spyware/malware and virus scanning route, as well as killing other open processes? It's a simple solution, but it might help.
The link above appears to bring you to a Wikipedian article titled Genuine; however, it trebs you to Deception, that fortunately also hosted by Wikipedia, though. Although this has many helpful uses, many illegal things they can do. For further info, click here.

I assume you've already done a virus scan and run a Spybot/Ad-Aware type program already?
