AoKH Mafia Calendar and Discussion

Welcome to the hub of AoKH mafia gaming! Here is where you can post about anything that is mafia related. Announce your latest new game ideas! Learn new strategies! Complain about jesters! Anything about mafia goes...within reason.

For those of you who are scratching their head, asking "What's Mafia?", here's a website that will help you learn the ropes (don't let those ropes lynch you!). It also has animations to satisfy the imaginative side of your cranium: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/610087

Once you've learned how to play the game, head over to HeavenGames' dedicated mafia forum, a place for members across all heavens to play mafia. Their Mafia Guide Library has excellent guides on strategy and how to play the game. You can also read through previous games to see real examples of how the game is played, all documented in their Calendar thread. Branch out and play games with players from all across HG (but don't forget to check back in here at home once in a while ).

If you're looking for further information on how to play mafia, this wiki has numerous references and more in depth information about roles and strategy: http://mafiascum.net

I'm not done with my setup yet, so if I was next in line, someone else can go. I tend to spend a lot of time brainstorming mafia setups before nailing them down.

I could probably finish my emails by Tuesday. But Carol was in the queue before me, so I'm fine if he wants to roll first.

Doesn't matter, either way, whatever Carol wants to do, I'm good with.

Say hello to Fornen, who gets onto the table with his first win!

Nowhere, I've tallied up all the results from your various accounts and consolidated them under your current name, the same as I do for people when they change their account name. I hope you don't mind.

    So, discussion:

To report failed kills in the night post or to not report failed kills? It's convention to report them nowadays, but I'm curious what people think about this issue as well as the pros and cons. To me it seems to allow for a more deterministic, night action based way of play, which may or not be for the best.

I like it when they're reported. But from a meta point of view, non-reporting is probably better for balance. Scum lose so often because in our small games, confirming one player by a failed kill seems pretty huge.

Realistically, only kills failed due to a protection should be reported. If the killer is roleblocked, it's like he never managed to reach his target in the first place. Alternatively you can also tell only the victim that someone attempted to kill them, which would allow more lying and scheming and add to the general uncertainty.

I favour never revealing failed kills publicly. It just encourages greater focus on night actions rather than the day game.

Yes. I'm not averse to adding in extra game elements, but they have to be focused around the day game and making it more interesting.

Perhaps a good solution would be to reveal the number of failed kills, but not any identities.
