Picture of the moment: Such Doge Many Scout

First hosted by Surge from 2008 to the end of 2011, then NowhereT from 2011 to 2012, this is the thread where we gain those mental caricatures we put beside the Gravatars of AoKH.

Should you wish to display an image of your face (or any other PG-13 region of your body), post it here using [img] or [url] tags. If you want a hosted picture taken down, just say so and it shall be removed.

Pictures of forummers no longer frequenting this Heaven may be found at the above links.

All pictures will be displayed as a link. Tineye will be used to test the legitimacy of photos posted by users with less than 500 posts, since trying to fabricate an online persona takes the fun out of things and is really just a little silly.

Please use an image host, rather than facebook, to submit your pictures. Facebook links seem to decay after a few months.

Bugger that, ain't that old boys! I'm just... gruff and manly.

I'll forgive you because you're German (funny story I've been mistaken for having German ancestry by many), but as you've never been to Australia you clearly have no idea what a redneck here is like!

Trust me they stand out like a sore thumb (mullet, can of beer in their hands...).

The height difference between you two looks huge though, as if it were more than just 34 cm.
Could be that she's wearing those kimono slippers (forgot their name) instead of heels. Although she usually just wears sneakers on a normal day, anyway ...

I am almost twice her weight as well.

Thank you. I thought so too the first time I met her, even though she was wearing the strangest orange-sweater-purple-socks combination I've ever seen.

We might appear to be very different (nationality, height, clothes, I love computers and she hates them, I listen to this and she listens to this, I love thick books on pretentious continental philosophy and she doesn't read, etc) - but somehow we fit together anyway, never fight, never hesitate, give plenty of support, and stick to the future.

Not that that's the key to these kind of things. She just always makes me happy when I'm with her, and vice versa, and I don't really think you need anything more than that to know you'll be fine.

It seems to me that this kind of fashion sense is a real theme among Japanese women, despite the stylishness I encountered in Tokyo last time I went.

That track was weird... a lot of tension, it sounded menacing. Interesting shots though, good quality ones from that time aren't too common. (Unless they are from films. )

Typical spring day in Beppu park: pink scarf, blue jacket, yellow skirt, black and white sweater, and brown shoes. Winter is less fun though.

As for the techno, I love the music on its own, but I picked the video because of a) awesome political incorrectness, and b) this is exactly what I imagined Leni Riefenstahl would've used if she had Ableton Live.

Nearly broke into the 200kg deadlift club. Failed by a fraction in that I couldn't straighten and lock out my arms.

200kg deadlift. Here goes nothing.

Just have to work at it, you'll get there. I've seen people go from where you are to doing pretty good weight so it's definitely not impossible for anyone.

As for myself, I need to drop 10kg so I'm trying to cut out as much crap as possible. It's bloody hard, I'd say harder than deadlifting 200kg!

Yeah we probably share similar body types; gain weight just by considering eating a doughnut or drinking that delicious frosty cold iced coffee.

Have you ever heard of the ectomorph, mesomorph and endormorph body types? I'm thinking I'm somewhere in between a meso and endo in that I share traits from both types.

I've certainly heard of the bodytypes but I don't really think they're worth considering. It's usually just what you've grown up with that decides how you'll do weightwise (eating habits and such). I've been fat my entire life since around 3 years old (to varying degrees, topping out at 123,3 kgs after high school, currently 100ish) so it's fairly difficult for me. So many well developed fat cells in me and the fact that I see eating as one of the most pleasurable things that happen in my life have a profound effect on me Been on a diet for over 5 years now, lowest I've been was around 2 years ago when I was around 90 kgs briefly. Currently hoping I'll eventually be able to get to 85 kgs so I can buy myself a new phone (I set that as a reward to help me lose weight).

I just think the body types give you some semblance of where you might be coming from and what you need to do to get to the desired goal. For me, I think my problem is sugar. My eating really isn't that bad, although I'm just lazy at times with preparation and that can let me down. I've always been a bigger person, but my natural weight would be around the 90kg mark, which I'm trying to get back down to. I was 90kg for ages when I suddenly let myself go and jumped right up to 108. I'm down to 100 currently. I've certainly gained much more muscle than I've had before but there's still the problem of the gut.

I'm your general skinnyfat person No muscle to speak of so my thin weight would probably be around 70-80 kgs despite my length. When I was 90 kgs there was still plenty of flab happening.

Genes definitely matter. However, IMO one aspect that doesn't get nearly as much attention as the "body type" concept is temperament/personality, which is also heavily dependent on your environment (especially the one around you when you were younger). I think it's the habits you develop, how you develop them, your sources of reward etc. that really count when you're building up the routine that sets you on the path to long term benefits and development.

I really like the saying "Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." Unfortunately, I think some of us struggle with the habit formation part because of our personalities.

Of course the meta-level skills, like being able to set concrete goals, track your progress and change your training/nutrition habits according to your situation, might help in this. And/or someone who kicks your butt when you're being lazy and making up excuses...

"Especially awe-inspiring is the fact that any single brain is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of countless stars billions of years ago... These atoms now form a conglomerate – your brain – that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans…the universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, is the greatest mystery of all." - Rama
