Maybe it wasn't clear, but on one hand it was a flagrant parody of all things Nazi, not an endorsement... and uh, it would've lasted what? Another 24 hours before it became another orgy of randomness?
Are we going to lock down Splash-Splash threads any time they stray into darker territory?
Not to mention the whole thing is entirely unfair, since now the other thread is going to accumulate posts at an accelerated rate, and even if mine is unlocked, it could be too little too late.

Above all since we were rather mocking German than saying Nazi speeches...

So... are we going to run a fair Splash-Splash competition?
EDIT: Never mind, it appears the thread was deleted.

You're free to take that shit to OD anytime. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
D_E closed it. There's been a short dialogue in IC and we've ruled it not really acceptable. We're a multi-national and multi-cultural community here at AoKH and there are probably still some lines that shouldn't be crossed; on grounds of caution. I was uncomfortable about this from the start, hence the editing out of the later war memes, but I think that after a brief discussion this decision is probably for the best.

Well, in all honesty... I was trying to pull a bait-and-switch. Get it to beat out Ax's thread, then immediately shunt to an MLP theme. I was trying to figure out how to contact Felix to discuss title changes...
Can't say I'm not irked, but I can understand. I just wish I'd been given an opportunity to fix it instead of summary termination.

Can I ask what those lines might be? I mean, casual disregard for the swear filter and off-color humor abounds in other Splash-Splash threads. So, what happens? Someone takes it seriously and comes out as a neo-Nazi and then gets shunned?

...Yeah, make a Splash-Splash from a thread asking questions about moderation. The first thread would instantly look more popular by comparison.

You're free to take that shit to OD anytime. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Let's try and keep level in the head, D_E. I know that this has offended you but Moff is a reasonable forummer and he wouldn't have posted the thread if he had known it that it would have caused offense. Even I have found it difficult drawing the line with these unpleasant things and there's theoretically even less of a cultural barrier between you and I than there is between he and you. Moff didn't mean to cause offense and I'm sure that he would never have posted his SS if he had thought that it was unacceptable.
You could've contacted me first and I would've gladly explained.
I wasn't much expecting the thread that came. And I was out of the house when it was posted.
Can I ask what those lines might be? I mean, casual disregard for the swear filter and off-color humor abounds in other Splash-Splash threads.
Disregard for the swear filter is only the manner in which things are said. I've always said that we shouldn't discriminate based on that, but rather on what's actually being said. It was one thing to drop in the word Nazi as a synonym for fascist or totalitarian but it's a whole other to really make light of Hitler; something that's rightfully very grave and serious. It becomes difficult now because there's a cultural divide on the forums and although I'm sure that certain people who make take offense to this (such as, to a certain extent, myself) may let a certain amount go, but for the benefit of the forummers who will be rightfully offended, there is a line which should not and will not be crossed. I think a Hitler-themed SS (and some of the war memes on the run-up) more or less were that line. It's important, generally, when online to err on the side of caution in relation to Hitler or the second world war because although you may be a long way away from it in the Americas (and in the UK), both geographically and culturally, those borders are irrelevant on the internet and all of us are connected directly and instantly regardless of our culture, location or background. For that reason, a line which may not be a line at home is a line here.
I hate putting my foot down on things like this as I'm sure you all know, but that only applies so far as I think the CoC is outdated and unfair. This is a serious issue and I'm putting my foot down now because it is right, in my mind, to do so. And I trust that you will all accept this decision and put aside any reservations you may have about it, because it is purely in the interests of this forum, its future and its harmony.

So if I were to discuss Mel Brooks' comedy here, I could get in trouble?
Again, my intent was not to offend. Well, unless someone actually liked the Third Reich and its ideas. Then I'll gladly offend you. But we don't have those around here.

I feel guilty now being the one that posted the most meme pictures.
You can be assured that I never intended to hurt anyone.
Btw did you know that in Germany it is some kind of forbidden to use abbreviations like "SS", may it be on a licence tag, a company's name... Always looks weird seeing "splash splash".

I did know that, which is why I refrained from any images in the OP. If I were to blatantly copy the format... I'd have had to find some image, and there was no way I'd have a picture in the OP that contained any Nazi imagery. That's a line I don't cross for yuks.
Plus knowing it could potentially get some forummers into trouble... another discouragement.

So if I were to discuss Mel Brooks' comedy here, I could get in trouble?
It can be difficult, but I would say that discussing his comedy would be OK, but you are treading into a somewhat gray-to-black area if you were to attempt to imitate it. It's one thing to be making light of these things in film where it is a one-way experience and very much another to be doing so here where people interact and you can often end up with some rather horrifying snowball discussions amongst other general interactive unpleasantries. I'm not one for drawing absolute conclusions on these things, as ninety nine point nine percent of forum moderation is context-dependant, but I would say that as a rule of thumb, discussion of works such as The Producers (I'm assuming that's what you're getting at) would be acceptable, but imitation that is not entirely obvious or snowballing discussions that somehow descend into Hitler memes would not be acceptable, although, as I said, that's a rule of thumb. Everything anyone ever posts on this board will always be context-dependant, that is, so long as I am moderating it.
