I'm grumpy. I want to relax and have fun in the SS and occasionally be silly and post lots of comics about talking flag-patterned balls. But we can't go twenty-five posts without something about the looming shitstorm catastrophe between the embodiment of political corruption and the embodiment of negative American stereotypes.

So... let's talk politics here, as civilly as required by the CoC. And leave our poor balls alone.

Oh, yeah... #FeeltheJohnson. FEEEEEEL IIIIIT. It's the only ticket in all fifty states without any rape apologism. Also, look at the lovely Marxist artwork in the Graduate Student Association office.

No Moff, I don't believe in a state-controlled media.

What we need is a state-controlled media to prevent those damned journalists spewing their shit on everyone!
It's sad: We've got perfectly good state-sponsored media here. They tell you what's up, show you the pictures, talk to a guy on-site, moving on. No bullshit, no sensationalism, no asinine hosts muddling their stupid opinions into the matter. People ignore that in favor of yellow journalism talkshows riding on the coattails of populism. Why.
...Not shur if srs... or unaware that from 2008 until November of 2016, there basically was a state controlled media...
That's not what that means and you know it. The fact that your stupid two-party system means one party can have an absolute majority all by itself has nothing to do with it.

There is a difference between a state-sponsored media and a state-controlled media. I don't even want to imagine what the BBC would be like if it was controlled by Theresa May...

I don't know when you can really argue the newsmedia made a hard turn left and became a party mouthpiece. I mean, to be sure, yellow journalism is an old habit (and I believe as American as apple pie; the term was coined here if memory serves, about Hearst's papers). If you were a Democrat, you bought the Democrat paper, and if you were a Republican, you got the Republican paper. But it never devolved into such... stark and even violent schism. Well, not since the end of Reconstruction, anyway.

I believe I made this comparison before, but this all seems awfully familiar. The problem is that instead of half a dozen pillars... You've got just two. This might be a problem.

Like I said several pages ago, y'all need a good dose of friendship to solve this.

I don't think it's big or clever to talk about the deaths of national leaders as a good thing.

For one, a power vacuum tends to replace an authoritarian regime with another authoritarian regime.

...Actually, a shit ton of stuff happened, but we know who ultimately came to power. Do we really want Russian tanks rolling to Berlin again?

You shouldn't take that comment that seriously.
That's such a dangerous, juvenile thing to say.
It's hardly dangerous because my opinion on some obscure forum counts for nothing.

As for "juvenile"... if you say so.
I don't think it's big or clever to talk about the deaths of national leaders as a good thing.
I agree it's neither "big" nor "clever", but I was trying to be neither.
For one, a power vacuum tends to replace an authoritarian regime with another authoritarian regime.
How much control do you think Putin really has over Russia? In his efforts to centralize everything, he has ironically squandered his ability to well and truly control Russia and now we have the many regions of Russia Moscow is having difficulty controlling directly, run by mafia. At least, that's what I've read. I think Russia needs a wake-up call. I'm having difficulty empathizing with all these Russians that still seem to be in love with Putin. Putin seems to be doing his best to create a new Cold War. It's a roll of the dice, but if Putin were somehow removed, maybe there'd be the chance of a more pro-Western government. That would do everyone good.

And I don't like Putin's appalling habit of assassinating his political enemies. I think he should get a taste of his own medicine.

Ah, but why is he trying to create a new Cold War? Why did the Argentine junta attack the Falklands, or for that matter, all further sudden upswellings of, "THE MALVINAS ARE OURS!" To distract the citizens from the fact that government is on the verge of implosion.

You're probably right. Putin's zenith of popularity was at the time of the Russian victory over Georgia. Russians like giving the West the middle finger and strongman leadership.

And this is why we throw around pejoratives like, "snowflake."
Conservatives are confronted with leftist ideas and leftists personally on a regular basis – there’s only one conservative cable news source, Fox News, and only one major conservative national news publication, The Wall Street Journal (and even there, the reportorial side of WSJ leans left). Hollywood, the universities, and even ESPN are dominated by the left. Conservatives can’t escape leftism. Leftists can [escape conservatism].
An interesting thought, and one I'm inclined to agree with on a kneejerk basis... but I'm sure a lot of LGBT and minority friends and associates would wish to disagree.

They're different values. I'm of the belief that conservatives hold to freedom, compassion and fairness just as strongly as progressives do, but they also believe that loyalty, sanctity and authority are necessary values for society.

Progressives and liberals tend not to. It's a matter of belief. You can't convince an atheist that human life is sacred, no more than you can a theist that there is no God.

For example, in America, there is very probably a correlation between the belief that climate change is real and caused by humanity primarily and a pro-choice stance, and between the belief that climate change is not real/insignificant/not caused by humans and a pro-life stance.

Doesn't this suggest that people's convictions about certain ideas stem significantly from the "camp" they have their allegiance to?

EDIT: In other words, does it naturally follow that when you believe abortion is evil, climate change isn't caused by humans? I fail to make the connection. You are just subscribing to a package of ideas labelled conservative/Republican.
