Don't think there's a thread around for movies and I wanted to share a little about one I just watched called The Bad Batch.
I watched this movie a night ago and was riveted. The film's plot centers around two groups living in a wasteland near Texas: packs of cannibals living in relative isolation and then a larger group of people who wish to return to normal life in some sense. Although this movie has plenty of charm to begin with, I found myself really getting into the storytelling through body language and facial cues. There is maybe a page of dialogue in the entire movie but it works to it's advantage. Has anyone else seen this kind of thing working well in another film?
Also, has anyone seen other engaging schtuff lately? Would love to get more movies to delve into.

Apocalypto by Mel Gibson has very little dialogue but works well. Seems to fall into the same category of the film you watched.
Set in pre-Columbian Yucatan and Guatemala around the year 1511, Apocalypto depicts the journey of Jaguar Paw, a Mesoamerican tribesman who must escape human sacrifice and rescue his family after the capture and destruction of his village at a time when the Mayan civilization is about to come to an end.

I recently rewatched Pan's Labyrinth, a Spanish fantasy film. It's very dark and reckless and takes place during the Spanish civil war. I highly recommend watching it if you are interested in some non-typical-American fantasy film. Despite the main actress being very young, it's definitely aimed at adults. (Not suitable for younger children for sure.)

I'm watching Thor: Ragnarok tonight.
I saw this a week ago.
It's a good movie. Mostly because they've finally admitted that nothing about Thor (as originally conceived) actually works.
- no Natalie Portman. GONE. Hemsworth makes a one second quip about her, and she's never mentioned again. Apparently she had a falling out with the big muckety-mucks at Marvel. It's basically "I have to go now, my planet needs me!" *yanks frame* for her. - Thor's three pointless friends die. Nothing of value was lost. - The random chick/backup love interest isn't even mentioned at all. - Thor's hammer breaks, so now we won't have to watch him awkwardly hit things things with a styrofoam movie prop. Instead, he can fly and shoot lightning. It's much cooler than it sounds. - Anthony Hopkins gracefully exits. I never liked him, or believed he was a Norse god. - Only two scenes of him running around Earth in normcore clothing, instead of infinitely many. - Thor is changed to be funny. At times they ride the line here, to the point where it feels like a Judd Apatow movie. But it's a big improvement for his character, which was just a goddamn log before.
You get lots of action, and some good writing. I liked Cate Blanchett.
I'm conflicted on the planet Sakaar. The whole arc feels like a distraction from the main storyline...but it looks REALLY good. The art direction is unique: it's Maori Cyberpunk: Lots of tribal designs mixed with hard metal surfaces. You'll see what I mean, I can't think of another sci-fi location that looks quite like it.
I don't watch as many movies as I used to and am trying to figure out what to do with my massive piles of DVDs. I'd just save my Star Wars and James Bond movies and get rid of the rest, but I'd really love to get some money for them but don't want to do bothersome stuff like sell them via internet or something I'd love to get at least 1 euro per DVD, but eh.

Hulk dick jokes.
I wasn't all that impressed actually. It wasn't 80s enough, too much exposition was dumped in machine-gun snippets and they forced Benedict Cumberbatch's awful cameo in there without even buying it dinner first.
What was the heroine's name? Valkyrie. That's right, they couldn't be f***ed to name her. Cate Blanchett Ex Machina got really boring after a while, and visually she felt like a discount Maleficent.
I liked South African rock alien a lot though.

I recently rewatched Pan's Labyrinth, a Spanish fantasy film.
Saw this a couple years ago, but would definitely re-watch. The sense of feeling helpless really gets across well with the film's fantasy elements.
I'd love to get at least 1 euro per DVD, but eh.
Whatchya got stocked up? Might be interested. Also, does anyone want to get rid of VHS tapes? Down for those too.

I've a couple hundred DVDs, mostly action with some scifi/fantasy/comedy etc. mixed in. Seagal, Carrey, Jet Li, J. Chan, Willis etc., I mostly picked the movies with bigger names in them I guess. The volume of all these DVDs is such that it'd be a bit tough to get it to Canada I'll have to do an inventory of the DVDs at some time, haven't really done a proper count/list of 'em.
Another option to selling the DVDs would be keeping the discs and discarding the cases but that feels like a kind of weird idea.

I plan on binge watching Stranger Things S2 this weekend. Will need to watch a decent recap video of S1 though, because I haven't seen it since the first couple of days it came out last year. Unless I can binge both....
Turns out the two cases with 160 slots for DVDs each weren't enough to store all my discs <.<' Will have to go back to buy one more tomorrow >.> Got halfway through the movies starting with S before running out.

Yeah I don't know why he included a comedy actor like Steven Seagal in there. Seems a bit out of place.
Maybe in 30 years time your DVDs will be considered vintage technology and all the cool kids will be chasing around for a library like yours, major. You're sitting on a potential goldmine.
In 2030 the sound of a DVD spinning up in a drive will be like the sound of a modem dialling, instantly evoking nostalgia.
In 2004, my Age of Empires II disc exploded in the drive. I was playing the game, it went bang, the drive jutted out about 2-3", and when I pulled it open it was full of shards, each about the size of a large dog's tooth. You are probably thinking this is an irrelevant and boring story. You are correct.

holy crap. that's a lot of movies. I do think they'll be considered retro and hip one day for sure. Not certain how viable they'll be for artistic purposes unless there's accessible ways to modify them though.

I watched Train to Busan recently, which is a 2016 Korean zombie movie. The zombie genre is way beyond bloated and this movie didn't do anything super unique, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway and it's probably one of the best films in this genre that I've seen. I'm a firm believer that you don't need to reinvent the wheel if you make some solid improvements to the current one.
