Unit/Building Concepts

Recently I've noticed a lot of new units going up on the blacksmith both copy/paste and modeled and thought it would be nice to have an open forum for people to put cool unit concepts and give ideas for units they would like to see. I can see there are a lot of projects currently in the works and wouldn't mind sharing any concepts or completed graphics I come up with.

I invite anyone else to post their own ideas for units as well as any they've completed and are willing to share.

Personally I'm no good at 3d modeling and my units are all copy/paste for the most part but either are welcome.

It's not a kopis. That's an iberian falcata, which means it fits to the iberian wars period look.

PS Red was not used in the roman army apart from important officers. Why everyone sticks to red? It makes me piiiisssseeeeed off biiiiig way....

Because everyone know Roman empire was the first step of the CCCP ?

(Because red is cool, blue is ... meh... Green is okay, violet is x'D, orange is cool, yellow okay, grey is neutral, and cyan is ridiculous)

I don't know why but seems that red has ever associated to the romans, especially the legionnairs, also, why they use iberian weapons? They should uses the Gladius, the tipical Legionary short sword!

Actually, that's false if we're referring to a post-Marian legion here. Red, in most cases, was a legion's heraldic color, and while some legions had different colors. Red was by far the most popular being a symbol of military power to the Romans and to their enemies. Also, legions had different shades of red, some faint, some dark, some vibrant, and these colors were incorporated in some way, occasionally as underclothes on legionaries or on shields. Now granted, a legionnaire was not covered head to toe in red or their legion color, but their shield was generally colorized, as were their underclothes.

Pre-Marian Roman troops also Red on their shields and banners, but rarely had red colored underclothes.

In reality, the Gladius came from an Iberian sword design, which is why it was known in it's full name as the Gladius Hispaniensis

The very first they used was the antemnae modl. Later they adopted the xiphos and etruscan machaira models, and even the latenian I and II tipe ones . During the punic wars they begun to use the gladium and falcata models more often, the first one become dominant in marian reform times but at first was used mainly in the Orient, and little in the West.

Every roman miles till marian reforms had to buy its own panoplia - and the accensi followed the roman army to scavenge dead enemies' weapons to equip themselves.
So the roman legionaries that fought in Iberia once here purchased the iberian swords that were better crafted then the italian - and often celtic - ones.

The red was reserved to generals, tribuni and legati, and in little amount, because it made the bearer the perfect aim for missiles and arrows. Brown and pelts were the favourite ones.

What you're trying to say is that the high ranking legionnaires had red cloaks and in general, more red. However, the shields remained Red for all Legionnaires carrying one. This red could sometimes be faint, but as I said, it was dependent upon legion colors.

In imperial times, yes. In republican times, often no. Blue and brown were more used for religious and practical reasons. Colors that were easy to obtain - and cheaper then red ...
However, we are talking about an AoK unit here, so the one we saw before may perform just fine... hey just look at it - history apart - and everyone will say it's a Roman one!

Does anyone have an idea of which unit I could take the armor from to put it on the Kamayuk to make a "cuirass" ?

I'm still blocked on that part of my macedonian phalanx guy.

The color of the armor doesn't matter, I can convert easily from any kind of metal to the one I want, the main problem is to have the same type of angles as the Kamayuk model... And I didn't found.

I tested with the Two-Handed Swordman but the angle isn't the same...
So it's abit tricky.

I saw one guy making the same kind of idea with the Conquistador armor, but the result is not what I'm looking for.

AoE1 Hoplite / Broad Swordman / Legion /Centurion armors are not large enought (too small in width) and also not the correct angles.

The best would be the Boyar... But the angles are still a problem.

And Finally I found how to do my Phalanx !

Well, lots of work to do with just boosting the size of the Arkantos spear, but I'll have a cool Phalanx to replace the Kamayuk then.
(also I'll have to fix some of the animations as I can see)

zyth, pal, phalanx is overarm (over the shield!) attack and pezzetairoi is generally with two hands!

ps underarm attack is for cavalry against infantry!

ps please make the armor white - for linothorax!

Well, I tried converting the trebuchet, but like the other units from RON it doesn't fit the graphic style of Aok, so I didn't render it.
