Meh, If I make one it will almost certainly be first age. I think the Children of Hurin would make a fantastic campaign (parts B&D, FF, RPG, easily divided into scenarios or parts for designing, just the right mix of cutscenes and playability).

Beren and Luthien would make a classic AoK rpg as well.

@Pulkit

I too think it is a fascinating period. I really would like to focus on the fall of Arnor and the subsequent fall of Angmar and was thinking of creating a campaign where you alternated between the two sides throughout. Alternatively, for the first few missions you would be fighting as the Witch-King and his forces and for the last few missions you would be fighting as the Gondorian reinforcements and Glorindel's Elves.

To be sure, that is the most haunting and finest part of the Silmarillion. Doubtless that would be the most epic campaign ever, but care must be taken to live up to the story's name.

Any favourite First Age (or earlier) heroes you'd like to include in the mod?

Not really. I think most people can just rename the Third Age heroes. I would like to add graphics for a female elf hero (Arwen, Galadriel, first age uses as well), and for Glaurung. But I'll do those after release (if ever).

If I understood you correctly, then you want to change the command attributes of buildings? That "Command Attribute" decides which buttons are shown for a selected object.

Military buildings have the waypoint/garrison flag as they have command attribute 10. Non-military buildings have command attribute 2. Hope it helps

Sadly that's not what I mean.

If you make any building, military or not, be able to create units/buildings, the Garrison Flag is automatically added.

I'm toying with the idea of making Farms buildable from the Mill, but that Garrison Flag button hides the Reseed Farm button.

Cysion, with your knowledge of the exe code, can you confirm if the Reseed Farm button is hardcoded or not?

The answer is pretty long, but I might write up a little tutorial on it at some point soon. Short answer is I use Poser, a 3d modeling program, for units. I use 3ds max for buildings, though it could easily do units as well.

Technology based on what 'alliance chain' or path you followed?

Or something like that.

My guess would be that to have one you must first have the other. Or perhaps the opposite, ie you can only have one of the two. Or I dunno.

Perhaps each one is based on a technological or even cultural path the player can take, much like in Age of Chivalry (whereby the Saxons can take the way of the Teutonic Order - enabling heavy knights and footman and disabling common levies), but as for everything you can only take one and not the other.

Perhaps they're based on alliances? I noticed the White Tree of Gondor and also the horse of the Rohirram. Also, does the heavy crossbow featured in the image relate to a possible alliance with Isengard (e.g. Uruk Hai)? If this is the case then it's possible they do relate to technological and cultural paths for the player to take, e.g. certain armour/weapon beneficiaries while losing advantages elsewhere (e.g. an alliance with Isengard might mean the Rohirram gain great heavy infantry but lose their cavalry bonuses).

Good. You are all correct, though some of you are thinking a trifle too deep (you won't have that much time to think in a live game!).

The golden chain depicts "choices", whether alliances or upgrades or anything. You can only pick one or the other (or the third sometimes ). They are supplemented by research descriptions that are numbered, example:

" 1. Research White Tree ... "
" 2. Research Other Tech ... "

ToME has several such choices across in the tech tree. The chains highlight them easily. (Tests revealed that people often missed one of the research choices).

Thanks, this will now be a confirmed feature.

I love the chain idea. It looks nice, but that's beside the point. Once you know what it means it is a lot easier to make on the fly decisions. I almost always choose longbow over steel bow by mistake, this should fix that.

Hey Matt and Pulkit, congrats on finishing the project, I'm honestly surprised Matt because I remember how much you hated modelling a couple years back but your work has improved a lot. I noticed you guys are using some of bome's old graphics, it sucks because a lot of the work that we did didn't even make it into the unfinished version in the blacksmith, I had fixed most of the buildings and there are about a dozen units that didn't even get included, including a numenorean knight, orc siege weapons and a high quality balrog.

Anyways I have a few questions

1. How long until it is released?
2. Are you only replacing existing graphics, or are new graphics being added? if so are all the civilizations getting their own units and building skins?
3. Could you explain the unit structure to me?

Hey there, ModRocker!

If you still have those units, perhaps it would be worthwhile to share them with Matt. He knows best which units need replacement, and I'm sure any new graphics will be valuable.
1. How long until it is released?
Not very long, though I'm bad at estimations so I'll vaguely say "soon".
2. Are you only replacing existing graphics, or are new graphics being added? if so are all the civilizations getting their own units and building skins?
Both. And no, not all civs get unique skins. There are 4 complete architectures with additional variations here and there.
3. Could you explain the unit structure to me?
I don't understand what you mean by that. Is that for Matt to answer?

I'm honestly surprised Matt because I remember how much you hated modelling a couple years back but your work has improved a lot.
...I never hated modelling, it's a hobby of mine. I found it frustrating to produce graphics that met both my standards and the communities while I was still learning. I also really disliked the level of community input Jorgito set the mod up to have; essentially, the community voted and critiqued every single graphic instead of the complete project. It was an insane amount of work for the modellers and it was driving me crazy. Really, once Jorgito left and the mod was restructured that problem's been gone.

As far as old BoME units, the quality is a crapshoot, so they are sometimes fantastic and sometimes horrible. Whatever you have, I would love to see. Send them all to the email in my profile, and if anything fits a need, I'd love to use it. However, we are pretty low on needs at this point, as the mod is pretty complete. But if something looks great we can shoehorn it in.

As for unit structure, it's all centered around playability. We've a system that's part unique, part Age of Chivalry style, part original AoK. Archers, skirms, spears, and the sword line are shared by all civs, with some graphical differences (though largely similar). Unique units are then spread across the military buildings. Gondor for example, has access to Swan knights, axemen of Lossenarch, Morthond bowmen, ithilien rangers, Tower Guard, Rohirrim, and maybe a few others. But never all at the same time, it's based on alliances and choices. Some 'unique' units, like Black orcs or rangers, are shared by as many as half a dozen or so civs. Others, like Uruks, are a one civ unit.

Buildings change based on alliance, not age. Ally with dwarves, and you will see many of your buildings reflect that choice. Numenor's wonder will change whether they ally with elves or forsake the Eldar, etc.

Unfortunately I no longer have any of the old graphics, but if you're interested you can get graphics from here http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=60

Theres a program in the utilities section that lets you open up each sequence of animations and you can even edit the pallet. You can extract all the frames in order on one single bitmap, getting rid of the unwanted frames is also super easy. The only problem is that the units run instead of walk but there is quite a few lotr units and other fantasy units as well and some units can be modded to fit the part.

Can I request some new screenshots please? the current ones are a little boring.
