So I had this idea because there are a lot of things I forget about when playing 1v1 games on Arabia (and other maps). I'd like to know what goes through the heads of advanced players of this game. I'll write the first few steps but please change them if necessary and add more steps. There's no need to discuss build orders, unless the situation calls for a change from the norm (i.e. only 5 on sheep for Britons etc)
1. (game start)
What Civ am I?
If anything other than Chinese, Mayans, or Huns, start with the usual build order of 2 houses.
If Chinese -> uses villagers and scout to find sheep ASAP and get all 6 on sheep.
If Mayans -> (I can't remember but...) research Loom first, while your building the first house, then continue with villagers.
If Huns -> Use villagers to help look for sheep, or have them chop wood while waiting for the sheep to arrive at your TC.
Please make corrections or add the next steps!
2. Check your opponents civ (if you don't know already) and plan accordingly.
I'm not so knowledgeable about this, and I'm not sure if your opponent's later-game strategy will affect your Dark & Feudal Age, but certain civs will likely affect your early game opening moves.
For example if your opponent is Koreans or Incas there's a good chance he's going to do a tower rush. With infantry civs like Celts, Aztecs, Goths and Japanese you might be more likely to see a drush. Franks might do scouts, and Britons, Mayans and Ethiopians might go archers. Other civs (e.g. Byzantines?) might try to turtle up and play defensively.
Question 1: What other opening plays might we see with certain civs?
Question 2: In what ways will your opponent's likely opening move affect your Dark Age and Feudal Age strategy?
