AI Signals are the method the game provides to allow communication between triggers and AI scripts. If you use the SET-SIGNAL action in a script, you can test for it in a trigger with the AI Signal condition.

The signals are numbers with no meaning of their own. How you use them gives them meaning. for example, assume the following is in the per file for civ 3:

(defrule
(town-under-attack)
=>
(set-signal 1)
)

When civ 3's town is under attack, signal 1 is 'activated.' You can have a test for signal 1 in a trigger, with whatever effects you want to use for that trigger.

The reverse of this is the AI Script Goal, which can be set in a trigger and detected in an AI script with the event-detected fact.
