I still remember when I first thought I had been the first to find it and than played a scn with it. That was a great feature.

What's up with that????!!!???
I have used that trick many times, as have many others, and I don't see why it was removed... it did no harm at all.
Oh well, I guess it is just one of those things.

It seems incredulous to me that they don't seem to read these forums or look for feedback relating to these things. If you are going to change something in the Editor then why not explore the feelings of the design community. Did they not know that the shallows was a well liked 'tool' in the editor?
When did anyone ever ask for this 'feature to be removed'.
How does this approach bode for the upcoming AOK patch??
ES just go ahead and do whatever you want. Don't worry about what we think.
I can only understand this if....the walk on water had to be fixed as a direct consequence of another issue fix. Otherwise it did not warrant the removal.

75% of the strat at the beginning is figuring out you can walk on the water!
now that removal will ruin that scenario
and many others
PUT IT BACK!!!!!!

I don't understand the reasons for this 'fix' either. What harm did it do? Did it ever enable multiplayer cheating? Did it ever affect the balance? Or did someone at ES just get annoyed because designers did things with their editor that they had not intended? Some of my own scenarios will become unplayable now.
I'm not going to download this patch. As far as I can see from that bug-fix list, it will not improve anything I bothered about, but it will make several things impossible that I care about. What about waterplants? Oh well, I don't want to know.
ES, please, by all means - undo this terrible disimprovement!

I agree with all of you. It's very bad that in RoR we can't walk on water anymore. However, I was leted dwon when I heard that we can't walk on water in AoK but now this. I wish ES are reading this.
Well, that's enough crying-and-not-doing-anything-about-that for me . There is a sandyman FAQ topic on the startegy forum. I gonna pay him a visit. 12/1/2000
Ingo a good post in the Strategy ASK Sandy thread(s).
Unfortunately Sandyman has not reacted well to my criticisms in the past so it is likely he will be dismissive of my opinions.
Hopefully he can see how it seems that ES have ignored our pleas for fixes and instead fixed something we did not want fixed. I beleive that ES and some Staff are suffering from the 'Arrogance of Success'.

BTW, the bridge trick is origninally mine (as far as I know).
And, um, Agammemmon, the pictures are, er, dead. That is they won't show.

I thought that the [bold] move [/bold] shallows tile still worked. That way, when you intend to delete the darn things, they actually delete (rather than making you overwrite them with a different terrain), while if you want to "walk on water" you just click on the move unit and move the color patch somewhere else, and then delete it there.
I'll have to finish the download, but I thought that was what they had done.

well, lemme put it this way, which makes more sense?
1. deleting a 20x20 tile of shallows individually for each tile
2. using the water terrain to cover it up??
well, # 2 sure makes more sense, WHY DID THEY DO THAT??!!
it's the stupidest "fix" i have ever heard of!
it's not a fix, it's just something stupid that'll ruin the game

Hey, everyone, does this really mean that the scenarios can't work (The saint that walks on the water, Ingo's for AoE1?)? I mean, it said that you can't do in in the scenario editor but does this mean that we can't move our units in the actual game?
If so, then AoE scenario designing (which, by the way, is already succumbing to the blows of AoK scenario desgining popularity) has just recieved a death blow!
If not, thank god, everyone, and don't ever download the patch.
I hope the latter one will be the true one.
Nakul
P.S.- Thanks Ingo for prompting me to post here.

The AoE pics I got from screenshots, some from AoE Heaven, and some others I got from the DRS files. Thanks for visiting my site!
I havn't seen THOSE particular lost buildings before. Which screenshots did you get those from? Show me a pic.
P.S. I have already made an AoE modpack that changes many AoE building looks into most lost buildings' looks, but some Alpha buildings were too big, so I wouldn't use them. I could email it to you for you to upload to your site if you want. Unless I update it with those unique buildings I found.

For the life of me I cannot understand ES "fixing" this bug.
It was purely a scenario editor trick and caused no-one any problems.
The upshot is that it has now ruined some of the best and most successful scenarios ever written for ROR.
Sadly now it is done I doubt they will go back and do a patch 1.0b.. but I wish they had thought about it !
