Dune a world famous novel written during just before the war by 'Frank Herbert'. It is science-fiction but seems to transfer across to AOK very well. If you haven't read the book, I suggest you do. It is amazing!
Anyway, just incase anyone hasn't heard of it and hasn't got a clue what I am on about(Where have you been) then I will breifly outline the story here. But I can't give away too much. READ THE BOOK!
The whole of known space is ruled by one Emperor. The Padishah Emperor. He keeps the Galaxy inline by using his terror troops, the 'Sardauker'. These are very powerful troops!
Within the Galaxy there are several 'Houses'. These are powerful families who rule their own planet.
This story is partly about two of the main houses. House Atreides (Good) and House Harkonnen (Bad). The story begins with their feud but entails into a much more involved, gripping story.
One of the MOST Important factors of the whole story is the spice! Spice is a extremely precious substance used by Guild Navigators to 'Fold Space'. In other words, travel billions of miles without moving. A technique crutial to the survival of the Empire. Therefore Spice is a much needed substance as without it. This would be impossible.
The only drawback is that Spice can only be found on one planet in the Entire Universe! That planet is 'Arrakias', better known as 'Dune'. It is a dry, desolate planet where is never has once rained. EVER! It is sparsley populated and people only live in cities. Apart from the local Inhabitants. The 'Fremen'. They live in the deep deserts of Dune, in not towns or cities but caves called 'Sietch's'. There numbers are not known, infact, nothing is really known about them. But they are very important characters!
The Padishah Emperor keeps one of the 'Great Houses' on Dune to mine the spice. Dune was originally controlled by House Harkonnen, until now. The control and pressure of Dune has been handed to long-time enemies of the Harkonnens. House Atreides.
You play the part of Paul Atreides. Son to Duke Leto Atreides and Jessica Atreides. He is a very special person indeed, although that is not known yet.
This is where I will stop otherwise I will spoil it. That is a very basic storyline. The whole story is intensly complicated but still truly amazing.
It may sound like it is too spacey for AOK. But fear not. All of the action takes place on land. Mainly on Dune itself.
So what do you think? Do you think I should carry this out? Pls leave your comments.
Thanks, Rhombus
