I recently read a book about a less know part of the Scot-British War, the rise to power of Robert the Bruce. The book itself is called The King's Swift Rider, by Mollie Hunter, if you're interested.
All I can tell you is that after the death of William Wallace, the Bruce was left with only one option to continue the struggle: to crown himself King of Scots and ally with the Red Comyn, of the powerful family of the Comyns that still had power in north scotland. However, this alliance led to the dead of the Red Comyn, which put the Comyns at blood feud against the Bruce. Sandwiched between enemies, his last option was to raise a peasant revolt against the English and the Earl of Bunchan (leader of the Comyns). What at first seemed a hopeless war slowly turned in favor of the Bruce, and he was able to free Scotland at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
