Howdy folks,
Have you ever dreamed of creating beautiful, rippling waves in an Age of Kings scenario, but thought it is not possible?
It is possible !
If you're interested in finding out how, download this new Utility scenario at the Blacksmith that I've submitted. It's a short tutorial scenario that will guide you through, step-by-step, on how to create realistic ocean waves for Age of Kings . You will also see a pretty shoreline with lots of nice ocean waves that I've created.
Hmmm.....Almost everyone is familiar with the using of bridges to create/get rid of water, but i dont think its ever been used that way! good job! (pretty map design too!

Well, I haven't d/l the ultility, but I had an idea that I believe is similar.
Do you alternate between the Top brigde and the Middle bridge to create the washed ashore affect?
Well, hats off to ya for beating me to create an utility.

Woah! Awesome utility! Im still learning new things all the time, even though I know a vast amount of stuff about the AOE II editor already.
In AOM they have waves as a natural part of the game, so we won't have to worry about that.

Just rated it. 4.5 (hope you do not take it offensivly ) That is an incredible scenario, and it is very useful. I am going to try it in one of my scenarios (I will mention your name since I do not know if you created it or what).
I don't think I will be using the utility right away. Im not currently designing any scenarios with oceans in them yet, but thanks anyways.

Wow, things get more and more innovative. Good job, alexander. I wonder if there's any way to use the "sea foam", too.
Too bad you can't put rotated cliffs on the shore to keep people from getting "wet" Actually, this might work:
You cannot create bridges on top of rotated cliffs (invisible walls, have you tried it?) but you could definetly use rotated cliffs a little ways up the beach, to keep people from getting wet. Try messing around with this, and report back
Thanks Alexandergreat3...I will review what was for me a 5.0 Utility soon. I would like to place an article at the Tsuniversity outlining your concept. We are experiencing problems right now with a server change, but please let me know if I have your blessing to do so.
Crasher: I was thinking the same thing about using it with seafoam.
I think I wasn't supposed to, but I was able to ride the horse into the surf without any problems, and that was a good experience. It just enhances the effect for me.
Alex: My favorite part was the shedding of clothes at the end, that really was the cherry on the top...thanks again!

Hey, this is a scenario isn't it? because it's a .scx file and my version of AoK didn't work with it. Is there something I've missed? Or is it only for AoC?

shadowraithe, unfortunately, I designed it using AoC. Had I designed it using AoK, then it could have been compatible for both versions .
AnastasiaKafka, it's a great idea that you would write an article on the concept . Thanks!
crasher, I've never seen the seafoam before. It would make a really nice eye-candy for a coastline. About the water "splashing" when units walk on the waves, it would go away once the units are no longer there, so it's okay, I think.
Have fun designing everyone,
-Alex

You might also be able to make a mod of the SWGB wave ripple, if you edit it a bit. But your idea's probly better.

This is the sea foam. My links have some sort of bug, though...
Would the trick work with AoK, and if it would how is it done?

Heh, a friend did this over at SWGB like 1-2 months ago.

Actually, there's a way to make this trick walkable and not walkable.
To be able to walk through the shoreline effect, you have to create the bridges over a land terrain, such as Desert. All that the bridges do is change the texture of the terrain, not the type. So if you created the bridges over water, you wouldn't be able to walk into the area where the shoreline effect takes place, so you wouldn't need Invisible Cliffs.
