On hold, but not forgotten. Geez... Sometimes I wish my life wasn't so busy.
In any case, I've put together a small map of the area in wich Against Thee, Wickedly plays. It's not fully complete (some landmarks are still missing for the simple reason that I haven't thought of them yet), but it's enough to give you a good idea. Check it out for yourself.

Full Map: [GIF, (53.25 KB)]
Scenario 2: [GIF, (99.76 KB)]

I prefer your approach, the initial purpose of a BMP. Apart from being beautiful and some kind of a frame for the introduction screen, they used to give the player some orientation on the map, an idea where to go to. Well done!

@ Tanneur:

Yup. The intro bitmap I used for the demo was something I just had to do. I think you'll understand. I'll use a "normal" bitmap for the other three scenarios.

@ Tormak:

Thanks for the encouraging words. I don't have the slightest clue when it'll be finished. Only time will tell.

@ Luke

The BMP fort he Demo is personal and I understand that fully. I was comparing the one above to many you find nowadays and prefer yours, where locations are given. Apart from that the single colour is attractive.

And one hard to replicate for the simple reason that it's a unique color pallette.

Wicked Awesome!,CherubLuke

The relatively low saturated overall hue makes this very fit for an ancient, somber time. May I say, it is beautiful!
I really like the pine-treesque background.

Though will it fit with the surrounding AoK background enough? The surrounding area with that biegeish hue has a higher saturation, making the bitmap seem brighter in a way, and I think it wouldn't be a very pretty contrast. So, you could blend it a bit with the original bitmap in order for it to fit better,or maybe you could add a fitting border? .It's a shame you can't 'paint' the actual border in the slideshow/introduction screen.

Explanation: that picture is the map of the entire area, and will be included as a GIF-file in whatever ATW ZIP I upload from now on. It's not meant to be an introductionary bitmap.

Though I fear it might give away too much, I'll show you people the bitmap I've made for the second scenario.
Yup, the second, as the first scenario is on hold because I was getting sick of the snow. Hm... I thought all scenarios were on hold? ...

Which immediately demonstrates my very clever solution (oh dear, I just blew my own thrumpet): I simply faded the SAM (Scenario Area Map) in the background, which ensures it will display properly. This is a GIF, but the original BMP looks the same - and works in AoK.

Luke:
I like the BMP instruction screen...it looks great.

I am not that impressed with it though, as I was not with Ingo's and BNC's similar instruction screens.

The compositions of all are fantastic, but for me the effect left something to be desired. Still, it's only my opinion, and from reading the Reviews of those other designs, were the BMP's were mentioned, it could be that I am alone in these thoughts.

I'm glad to see you back at the design again, and looking forward to the final release.

Hey, Luke, not to go off topic quick, but...You're an Angel now? I saw it in the main page. An "Angel Luke" Posted about the Research Treasury. So.....An Angel in disguise? Or did they mess up, or what? Just wondering....

Umm.... In a small attempt to keep this on topic.. ATW RULES! WOOWOOWOO!

I am thinking "Angel" is a prefix for all names on the news page. "Angel" Dark Side of Day for example.

Congrats on getting to do the news, Luke! I am sure you will do a good job!

Yes, of course and really the design style is very popular too.

Luke, it is just another expression of mine.

I guess what is left for me is an image that looks to be in the wrong color palette, although your transition from map to image is the best in the standard size BMP you have posted. In the editor in my mind the aged effect could be better. I think the composition is great, and as Tannuer pointed out to have it show relation to the actual map is fantastic, and no surprise as that was something I did long ago.

Also, in Ingo's Ulio, and BNC's Troll Bridge, I thought those similar designs, lent to a whole 'storybook' feel to them respectively. I was just free associating when I wrote that post, and I think it gave the wrong impression of my thoughts on the BMP's...It is just the aged effect that rubs me the wrong way.

Edit: Speeling
