If you had a castle with a moat and a bridge over it
say the bridge has 4 sections - top, bottom, and 2 middle bits
could you make triggers so that if you click on a certain object the 2 middle bits disappear and if you click on another object they come back?
it would be like a drawbridge.

(or would it still leave walkable water?)

It will leave walkable water, no matter what.

If you put the bridge pieces down in the editor, you'll get walkable water... and if you have a trigger create the bridge pieces on normal water, you'd get an unwalkable bridge.

I had a similar idea once.

I guess you could use rocks to block the way.

Or you make it a one time use bridge.

Or maybe even invisible villagers....

@Ingo:

You can have a bridge created on a strip of land, then it becomes walkable, and the water illusion appears underneath it. That problem is easily solved.

There was something about shallows that made Danthered's idea possible... I forget it now though, sorry. Maybe someone else remembers?

I used a drawbridge in Zelda as well. I just made a kill object trigger. U can't pass it our you will die. There is no other option. It is a shame tho

Invisible villagers blocking the way?

Complex, but it would do the trick .

I like The Editorbuilders solution...unit in area, play sound (splash), kill object.

IMHO, Darkmaster's solution is the best though...just create a trigger that keeps the units from crossing.

Darkmasters sollution is ok but can be very buggy (remember the overuse of change ownership?) It will work but when I tried that with zelda it will totally **** up the game

Darkmaster: I'm aware of the "bridge on a thin line of shallows/land trick", and I also used it in Ulio. I didn't suggest it to Danthered though, because it will always end you up with walkable water even if the bridge is removed.

But I like the splashing/drowning effect. That could be a nice workaround.

What I did was I used broken bridges at the ends.
All you would need to do is make a mod changing broken bridges into bridges with water at the end or just like normal bridges.
Then to make the drawbridge go up remove the middle bridges and place a broken bridge et VOILA! a drawbridge.

I hope it helps

What about an invisible cliff, or would that block the bridge even when its down?

You can't create cliffs using triggers, but only remove them. Once they're gone, they're gone...

That would be pointless for a drawbridge, as we can just have water to block the passage, instead of cliffs.

I say--
Make the bridge with a gate in front of it.
Lock it.
Have the character talk to the guard when he wants to pass.
Make a map revealer to show the bridge being created/lowering.
Unlock the gate, and do the same for the other side.

Innocent suggestion.

That's a good idea, Dark_Aro.

Block the entrance with something realistic (a locked gate), "lower" the bridge with triggers, unlock gate...etc.

That would be a great suggestion for AoEIII: Drawbridges!

AoE III forum is where they discuss these matters. It is more of an idea forum, to try to convince ES to make it their next project.

Nobody knows for sure, though.

I have found a solution to the drawbridge question. Whether it is what you want is up to you to decide.

1.) Place a bridge where you want the drawbridge.
2.) Remove parts of the bridge (the part that is "drawn up")
3.) Place cliffs to prevent the player from crossing the "shallow" water.
4.) When you want to use the drawbridge: Remove the gaia cliffs, and place the bridge.

True, but to my knowledge, it is the closest thing to a working drawbridge that AOK:TC has to offer.

Re-post of idea--

Make the bridge with a gate in front of it.
Lock it.
Have the character talk to the guard when he wants to pass.
Make a map revealer to show the bridge being created/lowering.
Unlock the gate, and do the same for the other side.

That is close, plus it works more than one time.
