You read the title, basically I want to know if you can rename units that are created by triggers during the scenario.

No. But for people making campaigns about the default hero units/regular units, it is not a problem. *robin hood campaign*

You can also do some hex editing with the language.dll file. But, you'd have to provide the file with your map.

This changes the names permanently for any unit in the game, so you should back-up your language.dll file beforehand. This is not recommended, though, but is used by SD teams, like the AoK Punk team (doesn't exist now ).

Yes... I find the Hex editor dangerous in ways. But if you are experienced, go ahead.

I'll just stick with placing units before hand and conveniantly hiding them, but thanks guys.

Notepad is actually a rather good Hex editor.

All you have to do is rename the file format to .txt and edit it then rename it to it's default format.
I used a hex editor though because then you don't get odd squares you get dots.

What you do is hide the unit behind a Gaia statue, or a shipwreck, then rename it. You can't see it, there's no outline!

You forgot the "all-purpose" rock.

Actually in an older post, someone explained how to change the name of a unit by placing the unit, setting the trigger, then creating a new blank map (w/o the unit). When the game started, the unit would appear (w/ the name change). It's not what you're looking for, but it was pretty cool.

Well, I'll probably use the rock/statue trick if it's appropriate, or I'll just set the trigger to a unit, then garrison them inside of an allied building.

then garrison them inside of an allied building.

That won't work, because computer units automatically ungarisson out of the buildings as soon as the game starts, even if you use the task object effect or an idle AI.

No, it would be a Player controlled unit. And it seems to work fine for me.

A player controlled unit? Then, never mind. If it was an AI unit, it would automatically ungarisson.
