I searched drought and found a good way to make a drought, but mine is a little more complex.
1) Put down your base terrain (Grass1 or 2) 2) Use triggers to create and buildings on your field or area or whatever, than remove them in the same trigger 3) Use another trigger with a timer or a condition that you want to use to create bridge tops all over the area and than remove them
this will make it look like it is partialy dried out since buildings turn the terrain to Dirt 2, and than make it look totally dried out when it gets to the desert part.
Very nice! I've never thought of that before! Good Idea!
I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead and everyday was as long as a life-age of the earth. But it was not the end. I've been sent back until my task is done... ... I come back to you now, at the turn of the tide.

Yeah, nice one. Just dont make the area to big or it might crash.
Cool idea. I suggest also making a dry river bed in the area during the drought (shown here in an article at DGDN), and killing the deer or something like that. Anyway...backtomyhole.

Gee wiz! Can it work with hilly places, so I can make a whole river go voom (the drought wil spread, like this bit, then that bit, then the next bit, you see?) So it won't crash!

Nice idea of doing it in several stages, Smapla.
Leinad le Grand, you cannot place land buildings on water in-game with triggers. That means you cannot do the second step on water, only on solid ground such as grass. However, you can use bridges, so it would go from water to sand immediately.

well you can sort of create a drought on a river by placing medium water and than later placing and removing bridge middles to make it look like the water level got lower.
@Leinad le Grand: "What if it rains again, eh,then how do you get the water back??" You put broken bridge middles in the game, than remove them. That way, the water comes back. Also, you could do the river trick during the game. Place and remove bridge tops at the edges to make the sand. Anyway...backtomyhole.

Gwame,

I used a trick similar to this to make a road more worn out since the last time a player went down it (I used watchtowers). I had thought it was common knowledge, but great job anyway. You could make a utility demonstrating it .

Smapla, I think all nathbert means is that you set up a simple scenario showing what your trick does and include instructions so that people can replicate it themselves. There are many such utilities at the Blacksmith (or look in the FAQ thread) if you want to see what other people have done.
Almost forgot: then upload it to AoKH so everyone can see it.
This seems intersting, but one question. How would this be used? Would it be say, a witch casting a drought spell, a dam exploding, or an eventual thing? I would think with the dam, you could use a sea gate, and then have some shore fish on the desert.

This would be really useful for doing a variation on what I did with my road: The player could be in a town in one part of a scenario, and then later on when he comes back in could be the summer, so it will be all dusty and dirty rather than green or snowy.
The Dam thing is a good idea, but I think the only way you can put fish on land is by map copying them (either by doing it yourself or just using Ana's template). I don't think that you can simply place them on land with a create object trigger.

You can use a similar trick to create snow terrain in game. If a building is placed on a sinle tile of snow terrain it will change the terrain under the building to snow dirt. So by having a single tile of snow terrain hidden under flowers or something, you can then create and remove buildings in an ever increasing area to turn a summer map in to winter.
