I would like to copy some interesting maps, made by RMS scripts, to a Scenario file.
Did anybody make this before?

I can imagine 2 possible ways:

1.- PC Memory.
Pausing the game at starting,
and reading the RAM memory, (or Video Memory, or whatever memory),
trying to find the Terrain Data, and Units Data.

- Is there any tool to make this?
- Is the Map Data stored in the same Scenario format style?
- If not, can it be adapted easily?

2.- Recorded Game File.
Again, pausing the game at starting, and saving the game.
So we can try to find the Map data in the recorded game file.

Following Bari's "mgx_format" Document, http://aocai.at.infoseek.co.jp/mgx_format.html,
I watch here a lot of Map data, spread all over the file.
Does anybody know what data stores the "Terrain", and "Units" information?

Hi folks

I'll try the files you have.

Ok on the way

Yes, I can try to test it. You can e_mail it also to me.

Ok on the way to you too.

Quoted from Anastasia:

I did it!

I had faith in ya.

Quoted from Anastasia:

I was using the "gamedata_x1.drs" that I modified to have TS@Rockies

That's the one you edited directly with wordpad right? That would screw things up for DRS Editor, since file starts would be different from normal.

Quoted from Anastasia:

I also want to determine what of a custom RMS can be saved this way using DRS Explorer.

In the .drs file I modified, gam54209.bin has been replaced with my Seasons_NG.rms. The only change I made to .rms before saving as .bin was adding #include_drs random_map.def 54000 just under title header. So it seems entire .rms can be saved, it just needs to have the #include line added (if not already there).

Quoted from iberico:

This option hadn't been explained before in the topic. It must be added to the tutorial too.!

I made a few screenshots of the steps I used. If you want I can zip them up and send to you to add to tutorial.

Quoted from iberico:

I think the 2 ways are possible. Both systems would work.

Yes but by just adding #include line original .rms authors get the credit they deserve.

While I was editing this last .drs I had a thought, if I could change the list of map types that comes up in game, I could then create alternet .drs files that list added .rms by their real names instead of having to remember what I replaced with what. I'm thinking this list would be in language_x1.dll (or language.dll) or is it in empires2_x1.dat (or empires2.dat), does anyone know off hand?

Yes, you are right.
The names are into "language.dll", and "language_x1.dll" files.
They are different for English version, French version, Italian version, .., and so on.

We can change their names, if we try to keep the length of original file.
But I have read in Heaven Games forums, that they can be modified,
with the Resource Hacker tool

That's what I thought because that's where hero names are. I remember reading the thread I believe your talking about, it was about changing hero names IIRC. It said something about needing to keep same number of spaces (letters or blank spaces) with in quotes. I'll see what I can find out.

btw did you receive my email?
