When I updated my Robin Hood thread with some screenshots, I posted another thread to let people know that I had updated it. One of the responses to this thread said that I needn't have posted it if I had 'bumped' my other thread.

What is bumping and how do you do it? I ask because I couldn't see anything relating to it on the Forum FAQ.

All they meant was that you could have replied to your own original thread rather than start a new one. Bumping means to post again a while (a week+?) after the last post. Usually it's frowned upon but sometimes it's OK. Recently at HG someone posted in a thread and then somebody else pointed out that the thread was about 3 years old so that's an extreme example of bumping.

You cant post in a topic 3 years old.

I tried to post in "Pic Wars" last month and the last reply was around 6 months ago, it then said "the expirery date for this thread is over" or something, which is why i made a new bersion of one of my favourite game threads "Pic Wars".

But bumping in a project post say if you just done alot of new progress, news, screenshots etc. is ok.

Thanks a lot. I'll add a few more screenshots then. Now I know what it is.
Cheers

I've been trying to bump my Cupid's Poisoned Arrows thread because I added screenies, but as was the last poster I, for some reason, cannot.

Stephen and Scud:
The good news is neither one of you are crazy, and without getting into the details of it, the forums can be set differently.

Boosh:
I'll take a look at it and top it if I can.

hamillhair:
If you update your topic then feel free to top (bump) it by placing a new reply in the thread indicating that you have updated.

For the most part there's no time or wait limit if you are posting new information, and if we think you are topping a thread for the sake of it, we will caution you about it.

Thanks for your responsible participation.

ROTFL. That's cool. I haven't heard that one before.

By the way, Ana is Angel Anastasia, correct?

I thought so!
I wasn't sure so I asked to make sure. It would have been a bit embarrasing to call Angel Anastasia Ana and then find out I'd got the wrong name. Also, as a sort of general question: In forums do I use the pronoun 'he' or 'she' when submitting a post?

Depends on who....Ana is female.

Generally, alot of the forumers are male, but dont call everyone "he", you might offend someone.

Just call them by name. e.g "Scud said..." "Ana said..."

You're the best!

Now I've found how to bump posts,as soon as I get round to it I'm going to put some more screenies on my Robin Hood thread.

You lot are mad!
This is not necessarily a bad thing however.

Incidentally, I have another question.

The subject name for this thread has been labelled 'off-topic'. Does that mean that it shouldn't be in this forum or what?

Scenario desgin eh? That the same as scenario design?

It just started off as a question about bumping. It was sort of related to scenario design because I was asking in relation to my Robin Hood thread which is about designing a scenario. Tenuous I know.

Does this mean that it'll get deleted or is the off-topic label just to let people know that it's off-topic?

@hamillhair
The off-topic indication is given when a subject is off-topic for the forum which in this case is scenario design, yet the subject still originates and has implications here. That is, when something is intimately associated or involved, and implicates a potential situation or outcome in the scenario design forum or community, we mark those subjects off-topic, and allow members to discuss without closing the thread. Of course as with all subjects, the discussions can evolve or drift off into mindless banter.

Anyway, this was done here because even though the question about bumping a thread might have been better served via email to a forum Moderator, the answer to it has implications for all of us, and therefore it seemed best to let everyone interested read the staff response. Also, you are relatively new to the forum, and you might have been even more confused by the topic's closing. That incidentally must be closed now, and because I think we got all we can from it, judging from post 22!

Topic closed.
