I don't know what's causing the MCI (Media Control Interface) error you are describing, but I got a couple myself recently when I would launch my game. The way I understand it is MCI components are called on to open windows for media such as AVI files.
The symptom I had was the opening AVI for the game would not play but I could click past to the GUI (Game User Interface). The first time the game window minimized and the error (MCI Error: Driver not ready) appeared. When I checked again the error alert remained behind the game (seen by keying alt + tab).
I think what fixed it for me was just restarting my computer. I can't be sure that it was that alone though because I ran CCleaner restarted the computer, then Installed Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), and restarted again as a part of that installation process.
IE7 happened to come up in an 'automatic update' (yellow shield), but anyway when I was finished installing, I no longer had the error.
