Since when do you not have a right to complain? Everyone has the right to have their voice heard. Isn't this one of the biggest reasons for having these forums, to hear what the players have to say? He has made a perfectly fair request; granted it could've been done in a more polite fashion, but it's still fair nonetheless. You do not need to be an oldie just to express an opinion. For all you guys know, he's been here longer than both of you combined, just never bothered to join the forums. Or better still, maybe he decided to get a new nickname. Try not to judge so harshly, so quickly. We're trying to make an even larger community, not scare new(?) people away for no real reason.
Hi StoneSasquatch, welcome to AoKH!
I actually agree that there are a lot of poor LotR scenarios, but you have to remember that LotR is a very popular target for new designers and as we all know, there's more new designers than old ones. When you're first starting out, for some, it's hard to think of an original story that can stand on it's own two feet. Taking one that's already popular and building off of that saves a new designer time; time that could be spent showing your actual design skills(although I don't agree with this to an extent). Although LotR isn't just a target for beginners, that's where most of the appeal comes from.
Considering no one is forcing you to play this genre, you're free to try any project that you like. If a project doesn't look interesting to you, you can always move on to something else.
For future reference, you could always try getting these kind of points across in the form of a polite question, rather than making a demand aimed at the whole community. I'm sure you'll get a better response.
Good luck,
- nI
