Ok, so i've had this idea for a while now and I started to make it. It is sort of like a 2-player game on one computer.

How it works is: You each choose your class (pike, archer, horse archer, melee cav., ranged cav.) and you take turns fighting battles in seperate arenas. You can upgrade your guys to the next level of the class (eg. man-at-arms to long swordsman or elite manguindai to conquistador) after you get enough money to do so. You can also upgrade your guys with attack and hp bonuses. After 30+ rounds or so each. You each face one another, one on one in a special arena. The winner wins...obviously.

I am done the map structure so far and have done some triggers.

I would like some feedback from the SD community. What do you think of this idea? Any changes/improvements?

Well, I don't particularly care for the concept. Why not just make it multiplayer. Nobody has two people who want to hop in and out of a chair

True, true, good point. Well, considering that it a very good point. I probably will make it multiplayer. Thanks matty.

Any more advice/suggestions?

Don't make the people take turns, make them go at the same time. If one guy finishes first, he can just watch the other guy for a little bit. Will involve much less watching and waiting than having it turn-based.

The idea doesn't sound bad, though. However, remember research technology won't work on units with modified HP/attack. So you'd have to create a new unit when you get an upgrade (like Man-at-arms to longsword), which would make the player lose all the +HP and AP he got, which might make people never get upgrades from unit to unit in the first place.

However, you could try making the unit upgrades start with bonus statistics, and rig the prices so that buying HP/AP isn't worth the money for your unit in the long run, compared to buying a unit upgrade.

I.e., +5 HP or +1 attack for 5 gold, or a champion with +10 AP and +50 HP for 50 gold.

I had the same idea, but seriously I think it might be a bit boring with just an arena and shop. maybe put a town for quests or minigames? I mean 30 round might just get boring

Alright... i won't make them take turns. I was only going to do that if it was on one comp anyways.

@Impeached:
Yes, I had thought about that. This is my plan. It is kind of hard to explain. When you upgrade your unit, there is already the upgraded version on the map. Your old unit is removed and the new one changes ownership. Now, about the HP and Attack stats staying. When your unit gets an upgrade, it not only upgrades the unit, but it also upgrades the other units that your unit will later turn into, letting it still have the same stats when upgraded.

@Noobo:
That sounds like a pretty good idea... Maybe you would go to the town after every 5 rounds and complete a minigame. Any thoughts on this?

dunno... Well, This idea mainly comes from a project im planning to do.
But, maybe the town is some sort of hang out area? When you're bored of fighting go to the tavern for tales quests? Then stop by at crowd of fans who will do anything for you including running off a cliff(minigames)?

Hahaha just some ideas 'cos I really want to an RPG like yours

A voluntary town break will be pointless. If one person stops at the town and another doesn't, the person who stops will lose. Town stops will have to be mandatory for both players.

True, true. Well, mandatory town stops sounds pretty good...I just have to come up with some fun minigames.
