Nearly a year into the conflict, the so called "Boshin War", the Imperial army has reached the heart of Shogun controlled Japan - the city of Edo. Surrounded by thousands of modern, battle-ready troops Tokugawa Yoshinibu frantically weighs his options.
In a large, ostentatious mansion resides the infamous samurai, Tsubasa. Now aged 53, his prime interests are still much the same as in his youth: alcohol and money. Little does he know, he will soon become a key participant in the Boshin War and the history of Japan as a whole.
That's right, I'm back and with a sequel. Before I show you all the nifty stuff I've got planned, I'd like to write a little bit about the development process and history of this game. Back in 2008 I started work on a project I had named "A Drunk Samurai". It was originally supposed to be a short, comical scenario featuring a has-been samurai wandering around and making trouble. Like many scenarios, I ditched it about halfway through and moved on to bigger and better things (Dogs of War, for one). Over a year later I looked at the game and thought it had some serious potential. I worked in a combat system, some more fights and 1 new boss fight (the well liked Crimson Viper). Eager to get the game out the door, I gave the game a decent once over and let you guys have it. Looking back, I feel like I failed to make the game I REALLY wanted. That game is Tsubasa's Tale 2 (working title).
My motto this time around is: Bigger, Better and More of It. I've revamped the combat system, enlarged the map significantly and added tons of new stuff for players to enjoy. In addition, all the bosses battles are more intuitive and fun than in Tsubasa's Tale 1. I think this will be more than a worthy sequel to a game that had a lot of potential. So I'm happy to present to you all, Tsubasa's Tale 2.
Even the mighty Tsubasa can't fight alone forever. In Tsubasa's Tale 2, he will be accomponied by one of four samurai. Each samurai brings their own unique skills to the table and recieve their own unique upgrades. Working together and maximizing each others strengths will be a key element in this game.
RYOUTA - Age 35. A well seasoned samurai who served directly under shogun Tokugawa Iemochi. He has trained over a dozen other samurai since the rise of the new Shogunate. Ryouta is most serious of the four samurai. His abilities specialize in defense and healing.
TAKESHI - Age 26. A fiery samurai who prefers to settle arguements with swords rather than words. Is famous for having won 53 consecutive duels to the death. Takeshi is a rash individual with a short temper. His abilities reflect this - he specializes in all out attack and damage.
HIDEKI - Age 19. A young samurai in training who began his training at the begining of the Boshin war. While he proved unable to handle a katana, his skill with a bow is nearly unmatched. As a young, impressionable boy he's been taken under the wing by Takeshi. Always wanting to prove himself in combat, he sometimes attacks without thinking. His abilities specialize in working in tandem with Tsubasa and dealing ranged damage.
ICHIRO - Age 24. While an experienced warrior, Ichiro has spent much of his life studying mechanics, natural sciences and math. He is a formidable strategist and scientist. He's the calmest and more introspective of the four. His special abilities are unique in that they rely on setting traps, fixing broken siege weapons and using stealth.
An example of changing combat styles while on the fly. Now that you can switch whenever you want, battles will be more complex as you try to determine which style fits the situation.
Your samurai partners have their own set of skills which work independent of Tsubasa's. Prepare to learn how they work and how to maximize their benefits.
Special abilities section of the menu. These abilities are ones which are activated via taunts. For example, you can type "10" to switch your combat style, or type "1" to cast an instant heal on yourself.
Passive abilities of the menu. These are always active and represent a permanent change to your character. In this case, the first ability increases Hideki's attack each time Tsubasa kills an enemy. The second ability increases the amount of gold dropped by enemies.
That's all for now. Feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to field them.
