Hey there everyone!
We in staff are thinking about making some changes to some of the Review Guidelines. It's nothing major, like thecomplete redrafting that some of you might remember, but we still thought we should get some community input before going ahead with it.
Basically, we want to do three things:
1. Change the name of the "Balance" category for cinematic scenarios into "Pacing", and tweak the guidelines accordingly. The guidelines already say that balance in cinematic scenarios should be translated as pace and flow, so it makes sense to rename the category, even if it's been several years since cinematic scenarios got their own Blacksmith category.
2. This is the slightly bigger point: based on an idea by Matt LiVecchi, which we thought was quite sensible, we want to abolish the "Usefulness/Novelty" category for reviews of mod packs. This would mean that mod packs would henceforth be given a single score, much like utilities and recorded games. In Matt's words: "if I review someone's 'champion to Superman' mod I really shouldn't be judging how novel or useful it is. I'm telling people, this is a perfect superman mod, looks good, will do the job. They then decide if they have any actual use for such a thing. It just seems so counter intuitive to have to write a paragraph on how to use the mod in scenarios. There's only one thing we look at in a mod, that's quality. "
3. There is currently no mention at all of mod packs, utilities, AIs, non-playable scenarios or recorded games in the guidelines. We do not plan to write any detailed guides for how to review these, but we do intend to add a paragraph or two to avoid confusion.
Thoughts?
