I am playing the campaigns/scenarios that come with AOE2 DE. I am curious as to the nature of the AI that controls these scenarios. I have loaded them into the editor and looked at the triggers. I also found that AI files are exported to the %TEMP% folder when one of these scenarios is run. So I have 2 questions:
1. I have seen some comments that seem to say some general AI might be assigned to the scenarios. What and where is this? Is it the "standard" DE AI?
2. These files in the %TEMP% folder - How did these originally get attached to the scenario? I don't see any option in the editor for assigning AI scripts to the AI players.

promisory is the default AI for DE.
You can definitely change the AI in the editor. You just need to have AI's already inside this default directory for most:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE\resources\_common\ai
Should be there. Cheers.

I have a guess as to how this works. The game designers want the campaigns to have a consistent operation thus the AI scripts are packaged in the scenarios. When the scenario is played, it unpacks the AI scripts into %TEMP%. It does not place the AI scripts in the official folder since all those campaign scenarios' AI would make a mess out the ai folder. Therefore, when I open a scenario in the editor, the packaged AI scripts are in the wrong place - not in the official 'common\AoE2DE\resources\_common\ai'. The editor just picks 'standard' as the AI. (Which confused me since I expected something like "Saladin-scn5 player 6"). I think I need to move the scripts from %TEMP% to the correct folder then for each AI player in the scenario, change the AI to the correct file. For example, 'Saladin-scn5 player 6'
