I made a small mod pack that changes two of the random map types. According to Blacksmith news, it will not be updated again for a while, so I thought I would post it here. I wanted to get some comments about it anyway.
The mod pack is only 3.93 kilobytes zipped, including the .txt file. Also, it is extremely easy to use. If you do not have Mod Pack Studio already, I highly suggest downloading it.
Description: This Mod Pack changes the "team islands" random map type into an ice-covered type. It also converts "islands" into a marsh map where all the water has been replaced by shallows.

It's nice to see someone doing something with MPS besides just SLP's. You might mention that it requires MPS Beta 2 or higher. People with Beta 1 will need to download and install Beta 2 to use the AKS features.

Good point, JC. I will edit the post in case people don't read your reply.
I like graphics mods, but custom random map types can really add variety in terms of gameplay. That is my favorite capability of MPS.

I just downloaded your mod. That's pretty cool. You can almost create your own expansion pack just by modifying the maps (well, I did say almost). Anyway, I hope that will inspire others to really play with the scripts in the AOK DRS files. Have you messed with the default ai scripts at all? That could be very interesting as well.
Almost forgot. If I can make one suggestion (I know, everybody's a critic, :-) ) you might play with the maps so that no "Marlins" are created for the shallows map.

I considered removing the Marlin, I figured that it would just add another option that isn't available in the boxed random map types.

cool. i wonder if any1 else is doing the same thing. i sure am. most of my creations r unstable... (did u know u can get TCs to overlap each other AND walls?!) i have made some of the RMs into RMs w/ fortresses, for no reason at all. and fortress w/ more buildings... BTW, cherub, can u email me the un-altere DRS? mine is broken... very broken... (the backup was overwritten on accident.

DarkWulf, I would like to help, but my connection is so slow that sending the entire DRS file would be practically impossible.
I suggest you backup the custom files you have for AOK (eg, Mod Packs, Scenarios, Saved Games) and re-install the game.

thnaks anyway... JCA, I LOVE YOU!!!!! (well, you're program anyway...) it backed up everything (just thought of it yesterday) so im ok again... i do like the messed up, icy swamp/fortress maps i made tho, so i'll keep it... i think a new category should be made for this stuff... i am thinking of writing something up about how it all works... i figured out most of the building codes (STABLE, ARCHERY RANGE, blah blah blah)

DarkWulf, just open the game\empires2.zip file on the CD and extract graphics.drs from it.

I just submitted an updated version of this mod to the blacksmith. It now changes 5 of the map types.
I am also bringing this thread to the top so that it will be noticed and moved to the correct forum.
