Hey everybody! I have noticed that almost everyone's making an RPG (even me!) so i decided to post a nice RPG reference sheet so all these will be good, sound RPG's. If there is something you want to add, correct or make a point about, just plonk a reply here, Then I will update it.
1) Map design and eye candy have to be nicer than all other types of scenario. In an RPG, you are going to be concerntrating on one lonley unit, so it will be only natural to look at the surroundings (if you are particularly proud of a feature you made, you could get your man to point it out (ie. Whoa! Excelent flowers!). However, if you are making an absolute bloodbath, the player's going to go "hmm.. I like the smell of rotten flesh on the floor in the morning." and not care much about the eye candy. Also, your map design must be totally sound, no blocked paths (unless its part of the game), most of the map should be used (i got flamed cos i didn't fill the entire map in RR, over ICQ though ) so, if you can't make the whole of the map to fill the plot, show off your eye candy skills there, and when asked what it was for, say its a secret area for the most skilled players (you'd have to be skilled to get to a place without triggers !!!)Continued tommorow, where I will be talking about story/plot, so if you have anything to contribute, just reply!------------------
