Usually you'd expect HockeySam18 to post this, but seeing as he didn't have the time yet and the dev blog being out, I'll step in and do the news post for once to give you all a place to discuss.

The newest dev blog concerns the topic of random maps, and how the new DLC will bring a completely new kind of random maps, with greatly differing starting positions among the teams and unique new map layouts.

As usual, you can find the full dev blog at the Forgotten Empires website. Check it out, there are many interesting map designs to be seen!

So basically they've taken the "real world" method of mapping and applied it to non real-world maps? Looks quite cool Although some more actual real world maps would be nice.

Will it be possible for the community to create maps of this hybrid rms-scenario style? because that would be awesome!

No idea how they did it.

But in the CD version it's sadly only possible to replace existing real world maps and not add any new ones. But doing so is quite interesting! (You have to change a scenario and a random map script in the gamedata_x1.drs, but the script only contains stuff like resources and terrain while the scenario has the starting locations, monument location and land. And everything you want to specifically always have in a certain place.)

Cliffs cannot be placed in proper patterns, so we're sticking to rocks along the shoreline to block off the players =)
They are placed in proper patterns in the real world maps ... so surely it would be possible here too?

I believe that the island map is a "true" random map. And in real world maps they are in exactly 1 fixed spot so that doesn't lend itself to random terrain very well.
