I made this topic for two reasons: to chat, and see if you come up with better ideas than me.
Firstly post the top 3 changes you would make, then feel free to post what else you would do if you could

What I Mostly Want
1. Better RM Scripting. I would like to see grand maps with function that are as good as human ones. The parameters are also noticably lacking if you want to establish a FFA sort of thing that puts one player into a great zone of comfort, or mountains, cliffs, putting others on islands.. etc.
2. The ability to specify percent variance if a percent is split up between two or more groups. If for example, I give 30% of the land to three players, Instead of all getting 10%, I would want one to get 15% while the others get maybe 7 or 8. I could also maybe use this for water.. mauybe i want one big lake, and one small lake, but I dont care as long as they ADD UP to 30%, and are in two separate clumps.
3. A guide that told me how Yucatan was acheived. That is a mystery to me, although probably not other people.

Changes I believe would be well
- Husbandry Changed from +10% base speed to +15%. Research Castle Age.
- Bloodlines Changed from +20 hp to +13% hp. Research Feudal Age.
- Light Cavalry, Hussar base speed increased by 5%.
- Archer Ring quarters the missed shots instead of all, fire faster.
- Mayan civilization change. . . Longer Resources Removed
- Nomad parameter allowed on custom map scripts
- MFO@CoveTwo fixedup, made a standard map
- Imbalances on existing standard maps fixed up where possible
- Megarandom Added to existing map scripts
- Navy Balances changed- Fireships best defensively, galleons good offensively, demolition ships kill all, canneon galleons cannonball fast like bbcannon
- Gillnets from AOFE added
- Woad Raiders can't glitch through stuff anymore
- Bombard Tower costs +50 gold, +25 stone (I get the feeling that sticking a cannon up there in the first place would necessitate a little engineering in the structure)
- Bombard Tower implements Userpatch action (does a lil damage to rams)
- 'Town Bell' for ram and transports.. Drum Beat or something, hit it once to tell soldiers within five tiles to garrison into rams

Below is where I get off track, some good some bad ideas
- Map that has varied terrain for FFA added.
- Elite Eagle Warriors bonus against Cavalry changed to +3
- Plumed Archer Ranged cut by two, LOS unaffected.
- Franks given a UT that reflects their history of wine. lol?
- Spearmen, Pikemen and Halberdiers given minimum range of 0.2, given maximum range of 0.4
- Onagers destroy trees!?!?!
- Scorpion bolt can only hit one ship; does same bonus damage as ship based bolt.
- A War Galley has 1.5x more hp than a Galley, A Galleon has 1.5x more hp than a War Galley. Galley weakened, maybe Transports available in Dark Age. Fireships
Personally I want a better random map scripting. I believe AOM and AOE3 have that.

Actually the garrison call for ram and boat sounds good to me. Or at least the idea of smoother loading for those units.

•Map sizes upped to the next level 255x255 -> 65536x65536.
•Player amount upped to 256.
•Much faster path finding.
•Pop limit upped to 65536.
•Easily addable civs to 65536.

I think 16 players would be enough if we wanna extend the number of players, otherwise it would feel more like an MMORTS rather than a normal RTS like aok is. And map sizes need to be limited in RM and DM, but the editor should go up to insane numbers.
"waiting for 137 more players to join game...."
Host can launch the game if all players are ready, so if the game has room for 256 players and "only" 124 players have joined the host can still launch

As someone who knows how it actually works, I would say these are more likely the true limits that the game could handle without everything breaking apart in the code.

Map Sizes: 670 x 670, or possibly 1023 x 1023.
Player amount: 15 (+ gaia for 16) *IF* the networking doesn't breakdown under the factorial number of TCP/UDP connections.
Path Finding: Is a function of how far to path, plus how often. Higher pop cap or more players = more paths to compute. Longer paths take longer.
Pop limit: 1023 max
Easily addable civs: 23 (or 24) max

lol! He actually told it wasn't possible in the current game. A lot of editing would be required.

The game actually lags easily if there is 8 players doing multiplayer and pop limit is 200. But if those limits were to get increased, I'd like to have them really high so noone could complain about them. I bet some people would want to make lots of selectable civs. Also, didn't you Matt say in another thread that the path finding could be improved like graphics are or something...

1. Artillery Bombards.
LOS: 6
HP: 100
Att: 50
Splash Area: 2.5 SQ
Armour: 0
Range: 50 < X

A classic example of spot and shoot. Oh how I wish you could do that with Siege weapons. And I know... This sounds ridiculous, what with Genie Ed and all.

2. Capability to create any obsolete units (For a smaller price).

3. Plant stakes option. A way to give military units more battlefield duarbility. Make forts or set up camp at a distant chokepoint. The works.

Misc 1. Limited Ammunition for ranged units. Refill with caravans.

I read once that a medieval crossbow was more expensive to make than a medieval gun. So..

I actually had a dream about this. A scenario that at first glance was CBA.. But instead of UU you got regular units. I had eagles, ally had cavalry archers. Those cavalry archers had a new icon in the second slot, said 20/200 and had a quiver. And it was the new Forgotten Empires game. Strange!
noticed nothing special about the eagles.

I don't know if it was cheaper a crossbow or a hand cannon, but I know that the first crossbows were much more accurate than hand cannons but were replaced because they needed many more hours to train.

Remember that soldiers are expensive and they need their time to more things.

The limited arrows could be fine, but it should be a radically different game.

Mercenary units that only cost gold to train.
At least two unique units for all civilizations.

Unit limit, collision detection for units (probably impossible), cavalry knocking units over (possible at all?), higher limit to the amount of farms you can queue and a queue for fishing traps to rebuild.

@Grubnessul
How I'd love to see cavalry charge down a company of pikemen. Oooh yes that would change the game indeed. Wish cavalry archers could fire AND move.

__________
@ Mahazona
The Age of Chivalry Mod has a little bit of hired mercenaries.
The Age of Heroes Mod has 2 unique units trainable at the Hero's Tower (A changed Accursed Tower).

Yee might want to try those out.
