To first give the player feel emotions about your charecters you first have to let them know about them.
To start understanding your Heros, you may want to answer these questions about each one in your story:
How old is the character?
Does the character have any siblings?
If so, what are their ages and are they brothers or sisters?
What type of home do they live in?
Are they Knowledgeable or have a rich job?
The above questions provide general information you might want to know if you had just met someone for the first time. Next, get the stuff you would find out about if this person becomes your friend:
What things will get the character angry? Sad? Frightened? Upset? Happy? Excited?
How does the character react when they get angry? Sad? Frightened? Upset? Happy? Excited?
What is the character's favorite saying?
What does the character do that is annoying? Wonderful?
What gestures does the character make when they are angry? Sad? Frightened? Upset? Happy? Excited?
Does the character make friends easily and why?
Is the character outgoing or withdrawn and why?
Is the character serious or a jovial person?
Does the character have a positive or negative outlook on life?
When creating a scenerio your reader does not need to know all the answers to the questions. However, the answers will help you decide how the character will respond to the storyline you are creating and with what emotions.
Imagine you are going to put a person you know fairly well in your scenerio. Create a character profile for this person. Add as much detail as you can. You can also add more questions and their answers.
Choose a character with a different personality. Continue adding more profiles for people you know, then add a few for people you happen to meet, but never really get to know.
Once you get quite a few profiles done, you have a choice of either picking or choosing the answers from the real ones, or making up new ones. Tack the character profile up somewhere for easy viewing while you are writing your story. With every twist and turn in your plot, you will be able to describe how your character will act and respond and with what emotions.
