Just a quick post to say i'm back after a long break caused by total lack of inspiration. Not that I ever actually did anything before then, but someone must know what I mean...
But basically I would just like some encouragement and feedback from you guys in actually getting down and making a scenario. I haven't really got a firm idea of what to do, but it will (hopefully) involve predominantly RPG-style gameplay set in a big city.
I don't plan any crazy data editing or suchlike, but perhaps a few neat trigger tricks and I will be composing/producing my own soundtrack.
Before I get stuck in with this unnamed project, I plan to do a few simple, short scenarios in a similar style to brush up...
Please give me some support so I don't go wandering off again =P !!!

Wow, nice way of giving the guy support...
BTW, what sort of support you mean? Like "OH how cool good luck with your scenario" which I think a bit stupid... anyway what kind of support?

Well if you read my other post you can see that im having some torubles too, however as for ideas. By the sounds of it you like your music especially if you are into making it (i had an attempt and well overture and its midi files arent the best tools), listen to some adventurous music like that of dungeon siege or dungeon siege 2, or listen to the music from some of the better ancient time movies like the gladiator usually something in them spark an idea so then when you jump on the editor you start of with a small idea that grows. I had (and still have) a scenario that started off quite simple and now is 9 scens in and only about halfway.
If you want some more specific ideas just start of with the basics like: >what am i side of designing am i good at, could be triggers, terrain, music, story etc >what type of terrain do i like and are good at mixing >what do i want as a main character? do i want a young hero out to save save his town or is he on a quest of self disovery (okay so i like referring to my own scen but i should complete it) or is it a story of an evil son of... who is bent or killing and taking over the world or jsut wantes revengee (yes revengee)
once you have some basic ideas they should start moulding in your head especially once you have the editor open once or twice (even if you dont use the maps you may make bit and pieces you like and say i want to inlcude that)
this brings me to a realisation, that scenario design is like childbirth, you soon quickly forget the pain it caused you but then you go back and do it again.
good luck with your scenario

well basically like ideas/recommendations/tips, just like Argotha (cheers man ). And yeah maybe I will give up, maybe I won't. I don't intend to, even though it may take me a while to get anywhere. But first i've got a few "mini-quest" scenarios that i'm working on, just to get back into the spirit of things.

He said he is returning, if you looked, and also you might get a little shock if you checked his profile.
Fixing errors aside, I am glad to see you return hustler and I think it is good that you are only taking on a sizable and "do-able" task to start off with (seeing as many people have been crippled by their over-ambitious to the point where their project becomes a grind and chore so the fun and motivation to continue is lost). Though you are planning to do an RPG in a “big city” as you called it, which has often been many desingers’ downfall as they over-complicate things, if you have a clear goal and story to follow you won’t find work pilling on top of you. Putting the map size smaller would help as well, in time to produce the map and also you would be concentrating your efforts (I have seen many people start out with a giant map and not get very far for they fun out of ideas on what to fill it with). This is why you need to set out the story and plan what you want to happen and the player to do – so the map size you chose fits what you want to include so you are not too cramped for space but also that you don’t have so much free space that you don’t have a clue with what to fill it with apart from moving the objectives and thus creating more movement for the player. During this movement, how will the player be entertained? You set yourself up with more problems to deal with.
And glad to hear you are adding a soundtrack, as this would greatly help immerse the player in the game. However, don’t add a soundtrack for the sake of it and make sure the songs you pick help with the mood and fit the story – synching it with key events and text to create atmosphere and tension, if done correctly, takes the scenario to a whole new level.
Ah i've just realised how much I missed the banter and community spirit of this forum you guys are great :P

no probs. But just remember what scud said about over complicating things as that is the part which helped ground me to a halt *screams while waving fist* Curse you complexity !!!!
anyways back on topic. By the sounds of it you have got an idea what you are doing and im sure that you will find a way to get it done. as teh saying goes, "where theres a will theres a benefactor"

Yup, the community pwns so much that a lot of people don't even design... (dunno when Scud or Monk last released a project)
Not that I want to stick you in a cyanide shower or anything, but why don't all you guys trying to make RPG's get together and stick with each other? I mean, if people keep giving up on their own...
Good advice from Scud, and as Epic Commander put it, good lick.
