Gwyndlegard was a country of peace. For over two hundred years there had been no war or fighting in the country and all of its neighbours were friendly, getting rich trading with Gwyndlegard. It was ruled by a righteous king called Mezenghi, and with the economy and trading in full bloom, the country was getting wealthier for every year.
But one day, the north-western regions of Gwyndlegard were flooded by heavily armed knights and swordsmen, archers and pikemen. An army of thirty thousand soldiers marched into the country, led by two military geniuses; Count Tengil and Queen Xaphira of Xioché, a country that once was Gwyndlegard's prime ally but in later years had turned jealous of Gwyndlegards riches. Mezenghi and his army stood unprepared when the well-equipped forces of Xioché marched through and sieged the Capitol. Mezenghi's army hadn't been to battle for twenty years, and last time they went to battle it was against a rabble of bandits.
Mezenghi surrendered the Capitol State in the east to Xaphira, but she was far from satisfied. Mezenghi and his men fled to the east, preparing their forces in Pumpkindon, the second biggest city in Gwyndlegard. Xaphira's and Tengil's armies split up and conquered the provinces of Dylglen, Purdgia and Northend and the regions of Midfield, Selenir, Iliengard and Winsburough within a month. Not until they reached the far east and south was it that their forces were stopped. The entire population of Pumpkindon, Antaglion and Gwynhill, save for for children, fought against the Xiochian forces. Both sides had great casualties, but the invasion was halted. An agreement of peace was signed between Xaphira and Mezenghi. Mezenghi had to surrender all of the country, save for Pumpkindon and its surroundings to Xaphira to secure the peace. The southern region of Gwynhill was one of the provinces that came under Xiochan occupation.
This is were you enter the story. In this campaign, you will play as Immanuel, a sergeant from the Gwynhill Province. After two years of living as minions for the Xiochian invaders, the people in Gwynhill want change.
One day, one of Xaphira's henchmen, Captain Maruvian, enters Gwynhill to bring slaves from the village to work in the mines. Taking slaves was one of the things the peace agreement said whould not be allowed, but apparently Xaphira has changed her mind. Among the slaves is Immanuel's girlfriend, Emily. Filled with anger and a longing for revenge, Immanuel sets out to bring Emily home and chop Maruvian's head off, if neccesary. He is accompanied by his close friends, Daru his wife Felicity. They must now gather volunteers to come along with them and travel throughout Gwyndlegard to free the slaves and have their revenge.
As time progresses, you will beomce deeper and deeper involved in Mezenghi's plans to revolt against Xaphira. After rescuing Emily, you end up as one of the prime leaders of the rebel forces, fighting for Gwyndlegard's independence.
Gwyndlegard will have a big variety of gameplay styles. Starting as a role play strategy scenario, it turns into fixed force, then build and destroy and then it shifts between FF and B&D. This scenario will have focus on design and layout, humour and interesting story. There'll be no fancy data editing or mods, no overly difficult trigger tricks. The music in the game will come from varied sources, stretching from Stardust to Command & Conquer. There will also be a partially spoken dialogue, not made by me personally though; Be thankful for that!
I personally think there are too few campaigns and scenarios where you take part in an epic story while still having a very humorous theme. I could mention a few but those are already commonly known as some of the best at AoKH ever. Gwyndlegard is my way to contribute to this rather small number with a humorous story on grand scale, something I think there ought to be many more of.
The original idea of this scenario came to me back in 2006, in my n00by days. I put the project on hold before even starting to make the map, and that's fortunate. Since then the scenario has evolved immensely and is becoming my probably best campaign ever, in my own opinion at least. The story is also completely changed, although the outlay for the map is generally the same; the only thing truly remaining of the old project. Ah, nostaliga.
• A giant map with great variety of design; from snowy hills, waters full of fish and pumpkin farms to open fields, giant fortresses and high mountains.
• An estimated 7-8 hours of gameplay
• A combination of gameplay-styles that hopefully will suit most players, more specifically RPS, Fixed Force and Build & Destroy.
• Spoken dialogue, to some extent - not self made though,
• No data changes, no modpacks, no extremely difficult tricks - a simple map in many aspects, with emphasis on story, humour and design, not awesome tricks.
• Music from various sources such as Command & Conquer Generals, Blietzkrieg and Stardust.

The playtesters of Gwyndlegard had to go through a lot and the "crew" changed several times. Because the playtesting started with an early alpha during the very first days of this thread's existance, playtesting has been going on for almost as long as I've been making this scenario! I'm very thankful that so many volunteered to test this and tell me where I had missed a spot, or twenty-seven. You all did a great job. I just hope what you had to go through doesn't scare you from playing the final version!
