Advanced Genie Editor 2018 does not seem to work, the newly added units are not listed in the units list. Previously, it actually listed the units, about a year ago, at least I could create them through a trigger. Does anyone uses it? I am using Win 10 and the updated version of AOE HD.

It works for me.
In AGE3, for you unit, make sure "hide in editor" is unchecked.
What you need to do (assuming you are using the "mods" folder, and not modding your game's actual .dat file) to see your unit is to load a scenario with your dataset. Get into the game, then quit.
Now go to the editor and you should see your unit available. The editor uses the last loaded dataset until you restart the game.
But like you said, creating the unit with a trigger is best. If you just add the unit to the map, then accidentally load and save later without first loading the dataset, your unit will be gone and any associated triggers will be broken.
