AOKH Forumers Ladder: Is 1 year old Today!
Posted by Dark Side of Day on August 29th, 2002 @ 7:30 a.m.
AOKH Forumers Ladder: Is 1 year old Today! It has seen some big changes and has grown in numbers. Almost 4500 Ladder games have been played over the last year since ArmageddonUnlimited created it. I have had a lot of fun updating the Ladder, but I am really glad A Noble Cause took the time to write the Ladder Update Program because with the amount of games being played now on the Ladder I would have to live on the computer to be able to update them all.

Check out the origional post here ----->AOKH Forumer's Ladder

Thanks goes out to all who have taken part and helped out with the AOKH Ladder. I know the 2nd year of the Ladder will be even better then the fisrt!

Blacksmith Feature: Roland's Quest
Posted by Theta on August 23rd, 2002 @ 11:39 p.m.
Welcome to this week's Feature of the Blacksmith. I have chosen a campaign by Heaven Games very own Angel Rasher. Angel Rasher is a veteran designer and forum moderator, who has been around since our beginning at Age of Empires Heaven.

Roland's Quest is a campaign based around the fighting between the English and the French during the Middle Ages. You take control of a Roland, a Knight who intends to betray one side in favour of the other. This creation is of a Mix style of gameplay, including various types of problems and different ways to overcome them, puzzles that will challenge your thinking and adaptability. The sounds are well suited to this work and help take the design one step further.

Angel Rasher, summed his campaign up with an interesting passage of text taken from his Description Page: -

"It was a time of war. It was a time of heroes. And of these heroes, only one held the future of Europe in his hands. This man, who gave his all for what he believed in, lost everything: home, friends, and dignity. And yet, in the midst of being known as a traitor to one side of a war, he became known as a hero to the other. In love and war, anything goes, and Roland was determined to fufill that saying for a cause that he knew was just. In doing so, however, he would risk everything that he held dear to him... and would gain the honor and respect of thousands.

Only you hold Roland's future in your hands. You decide what happens, when it happens, how it happens, and why it happens. You control destiny in your hands."
Angel Rasher's work received a review from design veteran Gordon Farell, scoring it a 4.8 out of a possible 5.0, marking it with the top marks in Balance, Creativity, Map Design and Story & Instructions. Gordon's review can be found here. As mentioned your in for some challenging time, ….. saving reguarly is advised ; ) BNC

AoE Pocket PC Screens
Posted by Theta on August 21st, 2002 @ 3:11 a.m.
Archangel sends word that the ES site has some amazing screenshots from the pocket PC verison of Age of Empires. The screens look as if they were taken right from the desktop PC.

Just looking at these screens remind me of some of the great friends I've met and fun that I've had playing the very first of the Age series of games. Also the screenshots display just how rapidly technology is advancing; FAST!
AoEH Reborn
Posted by Socvazius on August 20th, 2002 @ 8:10 a.m.
Heaven's oldest site, Age of Empires Heaven, has been on the net for more than 6 years. For six years, it has been the leading site in Age of Empires. The site is an enormous database of information, but it's been organized in a largely incoherent manner. Six years of existence can wear on the organization of the site, but a small group of dedicated forumers decided to reorganize it, make the wealth of information accessable by a just click of the mouse. Spending more than 8 months recoding, organizing, and giving each of the thousands of pages a new template, these people have given AoEH a "rebirth". Seraph Phill Phree, Angel peter, and Cherub CenturionZ_1 are the newest additions to the Heavenly ranks, and their positions are well deserved.

Congratulations to the three, and Heaven is grateful for your work on the site which started everything.
AoE Reborn

The game that started it all, Age of Empires is being brought over to the Pocket PC Platform.

On May 22nd (yes old news but we never picked it up), ZIO Interactive announced that it will develop and publish games based on Microsoft's best-selling real-time strategy game, Age of Empires for the Pocket PC platform. More ways to play AoE, I'm all for it!

" ZIO Interactive plans to release "Age of Empires for Pocket PC" in late 2002 and will debut the software at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles in the ZIOSoft booth: West Hall #3000. Initially the game will be available online for an MSRP of $29.95, and a retail version will be available shortly thereafter. The game is expected to carry an ESRB rating of "T" for "Teen".

Congratulations Myll_Slaghter: & Winston:
Posted by Dark Side of Day on August 18th, 2002 @ 6:17 p.m.
Myll_Slaghter has been made a Cherub, a well deserved appointment. He has been a valuable member here at AOKH for quite a while and a well respected player in the AOK community for a long time. Myll_Slaghter, as mentioned in a news post last week is now in control of the AOKH Training Camp. A position well sueted for him, He know the game inside out and will be a huge help to anyone who is smart enough to ask for his help. He will be setting up the various programs, added instructors along with anything else that will help the newer players learn what to do in a game in order to be the best they can be.

Winston has been made an Angel. A long time member of the AOKH community and the moderator for the General & Strategy Discussion as well as the old Strategy Forums. Winston is well respected by the AOK commmunity for his various roles which include founding the TML Clan along with his many strategy articles that have helped so many.

Congratulations to the both of you on your well deserved appointments.

WCG Canada 2002 Final!
Posted by Socvazius on August 17th, 2002 @ 7:20 a.m.
The World Cyber Games in Canada has arrived at its finals, and the official site has released details on it:

With the increasing internet population, and the climb of the video game industry, WCG and WCG Canada hopes to exploit this opportunity to unite young professional e-sports athletes to attain the ultimate goal of producing the first ever “World Cyber Olympics”. Dissimilar from last year’s WCG Canada is the choice of venue. Compared to the 10,000 square feet provided by the Ontario Science Centre, this year’s possible venue will host 100,000 square feet at Exhibit Hall E at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The cost of registration for the national final will be $45.00 for each player and $5.00 for spectators. Unfortunately there will be a seating limit of 1000 for competitors. Although there was an attendance of 8000 contestants including regionalists last year, there will not be any regionalists this year.
We would like to thank the organizing committee for coordinating this year’s very promising event, and we wish you the very best team Canada.

Blacksmith Feature: Moses, Liberator of the Hebrews
Posted by Theta on August 17th, 2002 @ 5:26 a.m.
Welcome to another week's feature from the great array that is the Blacksmith.
Moses, Liberator of the Hebrews is a campaign based around the biblical story of Moses, and on the freedom gained for the Hebrews.

The campaign contains 2 scenarios, and isn't given a style, although my assumption after playing is that it is of Mix style. The sounds, ambience and gameplay are sure to win over the majority and get you into the spirit of fighting for your cause. The creators, Lighthouse Creations specialise in Jewish based scenarios, to which this is 2 of them.

To sum this campaign up, this design team has written a descriptive text, taken from the Description Page.

" As the enslaved Hebrews dragged massive stones to build great palaces...
As the Pharaoh increased their intolerable burden day by day...
As the slaves' infants were thrown into the Nile...

The time was ripe. The prayers have been answered. An Exodus was about to occur; a people to form."

The story is true to the Bible, but still maintains the creativity and storyline well, adding other things in that will make you laugh, leave you puzzled or keep you interested. The sound files, although big (4mb) is a great addition to this work and can be found here. All that is left is for that witty comment..

..That seems to become more and more elusive by the day..
AOE2.com's Weekly Brawl!
Posted by Socvazius on August 14th, 2002 @ 9:33 p.m.
Our good friends at AOE2.com have started a "weekly brawl" tournament with Age of Kings: The Conquerors. It will occur every Friday night at around 6 PM CST. Here's more of what TheWill has to say about it:

To play, simply post your zone.com name here. Then, every Friday night, go to Tournament Room 4 in the Age of Kings: The Conquerors section. To host a game, simply put the title as "BRAWL / " and have whatever settings you want. To join a game, simply enter any game that starts with "BRAWL."

At the end of the night, I need the winners to email me the results of any games they played: settings, map, who played, who won. I will then post all the results in the forums. You guys will vote on which game you want to see, and I will upload the three highest voted recorded games.

Unfortunately it seems there's been some problems with the server transition of the downloads database. You can still download existing files and make comments on them, but for the time being files can't be added or updated.

Sorry about this, and thanks for your patience. We'll let you know when things are back to normal. :)
