Brand New Car has decided to leave the ranks of HG and writes.

I Apologize, my interest in Aok: TC has
been waning for a while now. I'd like to sincerely apologize
to all the people who signed up for the Custom Scn Ladder I
accepted full responsibility for its inactivity. I hope to
visit back often, but I never really posted much, more just
lurked. - Bill

New Virus out in the wild
Posted by Aro on September 19th, 2003 @ 2:31 p.m.
There is a new virus that takes advantage of a recent problem discovered with certain version of Microsoft Windows. More information can be found here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a@mm.html . It dupes users into thinking they are installing a security update, when in fact it isn't. See screenshot: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/graphics/w32.swen.a@mm.3.gif. If you haven't updated your system, please do so at http://www.windowsupdate.com.

If you opened the attachment, it attempts to disable various anti-virus programs (like Norton Anti-Virus) as well as various firewalls (like ZoneAlarm). It will try to intercept your email username, password, and mail server settings, thus using your ISP's mail server to spread itself. It will attempt to send itself to everyone on your address book through email, as well as attempt to spread through KaZaA, shared directories, IRC, and newsgroups. It will modify your registry, add files to your computer. In short, your computer and possibly your ISP access will be thoroughly screwed by the time the worm is done installing itself on your computer, so it'll be best if you avoid getting infected so you don't have to deal with the resulting mess.

As always, don't open email attachments from people you don't know, even if it claims to be from Microsoft.
The Flush -- Revisited
Posted by Aro on September 7th, 2003 @ 6:51 a.m.
Stevay has made a very informative post in the General & Strategy Discussions about the Flush strategy for all people new to it and what it means.
What is "a Flush?"
The term, "Flush" stood for "Feudal Rush" when it was invented a long time ago, back in AoK. Nowadays, the "Flush" isn't just a "Feudal Rush," it's the strategy that defines how the game is now played. Everywhere you go in Zone Rated RM, you'll see a Flush, be it Huns or not (the Huns are the most popular civ to Flush with). Why? With Spears/Skirms going down your throat and disrupting your economy and killing Vils every now and then, you're going to be behind economically. There is one real counter to a Flush: you must Flush the other person.

Where did it come from?
Although you could credit many people for inventing it, and changing it over the years, the first real strategy article on the Flush was made by gutter_rat. He used a strategy in which he would choose Chinese (this was back in AoK, where the Chinese were the best civ), get a 12:xx minute Feudal time (with 26 Vils, which is actually SLOW when you compare it to the Flush nowadays), and start attacking the other player with Archers and Towers.
