Two Years of the CSC
Posted by Mash on May 21st, 2008 @ 1:24 p.m.
It was a chill, ravenous evening; when the sun was at its lowest point on the horizon, when birds fled through the sombre, unmoving sky for sanctuary, as crows and ravens cawed hungrily in the skeleton frames of trees, that I noticed the appearance of the first Screenshot Competition – which would later be called the Continuous Screenshot Competition – an immediately popular and productive contest.

Created by Thunder77, the aim-of-the-game, to quote an over-used phrase, was to design a single screenshot based on a theme set predominantly for the round, usually decided by the host of the competition or by the previous winner of the round; the theme arraying from anything like “Home Sweet Home”, “The Royal Caravan” or “Under Siege”. Forumers were given at least 5 days to a week to design a screenshot to fit the theme, after which no entries would be accepted and voting for the best screenshot would be made – the winner of the round being decided by the highest tally of votes.

After all this, and a couple of screenshot competitions later, and several more hungry cawing crows and ravens, and many winners getting drunk with pride at the pub, it has been two, surprisingly short years since the first annual screenshot competition hit the forums. Currently, we are sitting on the fourth Continuous Screenshot Competition, and as of today (May 21), rising to a cool morning to greet its second anniversary – two years of intense, continuous fun!

Scud, a long-devoted forumer and current host of the CSC, would like to extend a warm hand of welcome to you and everyone else visiting the forums to help celebrate the second anniversary of the CSC by participating in the next round this coming weekend, based on a special “Happy Birthday” theme. Even if you don’t feel like participating, you can always swing by and pop in a comment of encouragement for those who do – all in good will.

So until then, join in with the current round, which closes on the 23rd (this Friday!), vote for some screenies, and get designing!

AoKH Mini-Game Competition!
Posted by Mash on May 14th, 2008 @ 1:04 p.m.
A new competition has begun at the forums, and which looks set to be a promising and competitive one. Hosted by forumer Epic Commander, contestants must design a mini-game scenario for AoK based on a 30 x 30 or lower size map.

Contestants must have their work emailed to the host by 25th June. There are no mod packs allowed, but modified .data files such as Renaissance are allowed to include addition units. Judging will be based on a couple of categories, including playability, map design, creativity and balance, with an overall marking out of 60 points. In addition, the theme is open to allow for a broad and laid back atmosphere.

Let the contest begin here!
