This new unit replaces the man-at-arms, but can be used to replace whatever unit you want. It's a man-at-arms with a Middle Eastern head (mameluke). I'll use him for my mod Age of Voivods, for Ottomans, but since it wasn't too hard to do and that I want to share a part of my work, you're free to use it if you just say it's mine. I think in first about Lanor's Age of Cruasdes mod.
To install it: -run the Mod Pack install script;
-or decompile it with Mod Pack Studio(no password required) and put the slps yourself. There're 5 unit's movement files and the icons' file with the its. A screenshot is available inside the zip if you can't see it on the site or if you just want to see before use or not.
Hope you'll enjoy.
Bye!

This modpack by fr steve replaces the 2-handed swordsman with a Middle-Eastern version.
Usefulness/Novelty
Usefulness - 4
This unit, while well made, is not hugely different from the original 2-handed swordsman. The unit wears a dark hood over his face instead of the standard helmet, but in almost any situation I can think of, the original would work. That said, this unit is still different enough that it would stand out among other 2-handed swordsmen, so personally, I would change the unit it replaces, as I always love a greater variety of swordsmen to choose from. In short, this unit is quote useful, but not absolutely necessary.
Novelty - 4
This isn't the first middle-eastern swordsman I've seen, and definitely not the first swordsman, but it's still a unique idea. The fact that is so well made also helps. I always appreciate another addition to my collection of various swordsmen, and will likely use this in my next campaign (credited of course).
Quality/Instructions
Quality - 5
This unit gets a solid 5 here. No bugs, anchors placed perfectly. it looks like fr steve just pulled the swordsman out of the game, took a little helmet, pushed it onto its head and shoved it back in. There's no white box of doom (thank goodness) and no glitching or other bugs. In short: great work.
Instructions - 5
Not only is it in a user-friendly MPS script, it also has a readme and a screenshot. Well done!

Quality/Instructions - 5
Overall: 4.5
In summary: An excellently made addition to the ranks of new units here at the Blacksmith. I recommend this unit for download. Keep up the good work! |

Rating: 3
By any standards 3 is not an awful score. It doesn't mean it's a really bad unit. It just means it's not anything special.
The two handed swordsman has some very minor graphical changes and I don't really see how different it would feel in game. I actually prefer the original and don't see how this unit would work.
Some people may find it useful for a one off scenario unit or something but it doesn't stand as a great unit. It's ever so slighty distorted but again technically is fine. Instructions are there, no errors huge that I noticed, the only downside is its simpleness.
It isn't as good as other copy and paste works on here, but is better than a few. I think 3 is a generous score. This isn't anything against the author however - I have seen their current mod in progress and it looks great.
I feel the author could have released a small set of units as one (which has a point to it) which probably would have received a higher score if to a good quality.
As it stands this single unit is bordering below average to average and I hope to see much better than this in the future, putting in more effort on imagination and design.
